growlin thru this week…

So for an example of the kind of sound and images this band associates with, I attached the music video I spoke of before in here. The video is for the song, I’ll Be Around. Now the music video most definitely follows the rules of rock in the sense that there are no rules when it comes to rock. This band in the video defies what some may consider appropriate. The video is definitely filled with the band members humor which can also be considered crude to others. The video takes place entirely in the emergency room wing of a hospital. Off to tragic start as a group of friends drag their friends body out of the car as it appears he is suffering from an overdose. They bring him in and he is laid out on a stretcher as two nurses wheel him down hallway after hallway. The gang of friends follow behind as they want to see the fate of their friend. Although their friend is in bad condition, his friends don’t seem to notice and all sit in the room hanging out and almost too happy. The doctor tries to revive their friend but is careless and gives up after two attempts. The video continues as they have a party in the emergency room wing, dancing around with lights and other patients. The ghost of their friend joins them as well as other dead corpses in the morgue can be seen singing along. The video overall is set in the 60’s vibe they are going for including the clothes and the mentality of the...

Los Growlers

Dating back to only about last semester did I pick this band up in my go to playlist of music. My best friend Kevin, showed me their music after attending one of their shows in Chicago. This band is considered similar to the sound of Tame Impala, the 1960’s grunge rock. Their sound and lyrics are softer than those of Tame Impala, but are perfect for a relaxing day at the beach and reminds me of sweet summertime. Although The Growlers fit in the same style as Tame Impala, they are seen as of more of underground and don’t have quite as much music out at the time. Tame Impala has three albums and countless music videos to visualize the music theme. The Growlers only have one official music video out and only two albums out. The Growlers are getting their start coming from 2010 so they are on the track to greatness. Music aside, this band makes me happy to listen to knowing the recommendation came from one of my absolute best friends. This is the kind of music he loves and puts him in such a great mood. Just knowing that can automatically make me excited to listen to....

Tame or Wild Impala???

Don’t let the name of this band fool you because although their sound may be mellow, their music videos are far from it. The rock group has a plethora of different videos from their older albums to their newest music. But one thing is for sure; they love color and all things psychedelic. This vibe follows the idea of The Beatles that they were trying to capture for...

Tame Impala

Starting off the week of midterms and chaos before spring break calls for some calming music to take me to a happy quiet place. What better way to do that than listening to the psychedelic rock/pop group, Tame Impala. The band of four men got their start back in 2010 when they debuted their self-entitled album and really began to give a name for themselves. They’ve had the privilege to play with bands like The Black Keys. Some people would go as far as saying they give off vibes much like The Beatles did. The sound they give off can be described as spacy, and psychedelic. They uphold this theme with not only their music but their music videos. They utilize many different aspects of color and mind warping graphics that pull you in. Their most popular song off their most recent album that I really like is called, The Less I Know the Better. This song can be listened to when studying, driving, walking around campus, etc. It is off the album titled, Currents that came out in 2015. The song much like a lot of the songs on the album must do with love and the battles of it. In this song, specifically the lead talks about his love being with someone else and how he wants to be with her. He then tells himself the less he knows, the better because it’s breaking his heart to know what she’s doing with someone...
