Tame or Wild Impala???

Don’t let the name of this band fool you because although their sound may be mellow, their music videos are far from it. The rock group has a plethora of different videos from their older albums to their newest music. But one thing is for sure; they love color and all things psychedelic. This vibe follows the idea of The Beatles that they were trying to capture for...

Tame Impala

Starting off the week of midterms and chaos before spring break calls for some calming music to take me to a happy quiet place. What better way to do that than listening to the psychedelic rock/pop group, Tame Impala. The band of four men got their start back in 2010 when they debuted their self-entitled album and really began to give a name for themselves. They’ve had the privilege to play with bands like The Black Keys. Some people would go as far as saying they give off vibes much like The Beatles did. The sound they give off can be described as spacy, and psychedelic. They uphold this theme with not only their music but their music videos. They utilize many different aspects of color and mind warping graphics that pull you in. Their most popular song off their most recent album that I really like is called, The Less I Know the Better. This song can be listened to when studying, driving, walking around campus, etc. It is off the album titled, Currents that came out in 2015. The song much like a lot of the songs on the album must do with love and the battles of it. In this song, specifically the lead talks about his love being with someone else and how he wants to be with her. He then tells himself the less he knows, the better because it’s breaking his heart to know what she’s doing with someone...

Winter Mix 3

To finish off the week with Big Gigantic, I wanted to talk about a mix that they added to their SoundCloud account about a month prior to me seeing them in concert. Nothing got me more excited to hear them live than this mix. The mix is about 50 minutes long which makes it great for listening to in the shower or car when you just want something to play all the way through and not have to worry about flipping through songs. So the mix that they put out was created by them with song and sounds from all other EDM artists. This is always cool to hear because you get a taste of what that artists produces, but also other music in their genre that they appreciate. The incorporate a lot of their own work from the most recent album which is always a nice touch to catch the flow of their album. This is the third mix they have created and it brought joy to many other listeners. The list of songs in total was created by edmchicago.com “All Of Me – Big Gigantic Light – San Holo Dirt Off Your Shoulders (SMLE & Jupe Remix) – Jay Z Together feat. Sam Smith – Disclosure & Jimmy Naples The Little Things (Kasbo Remix) – Big Gigantic Love Sick feat ASAP Rocky – Mura Masa Cant Hide feat. Ashe – Whethan Im Juiced – Mr Carmack You feat. Toot Illdude – TheSpvceAge Heater – Flume Ms Jackson (Party Pupils Remix) – Outkast No Apologies feat. Natalie Cressman – Big Gigantic Dang! feat Anderson Paak – Mac Miller...

Big G

In light of a recent and amazing weekend of mine, I have to talk about this dynamic duo. Big Gigantic, the EDM team based out of Boulder, CO continue to make jazzy music that’s almost impossible to not dance to. Over this past weekend I attended one of their shows they had in Milwaukee at the Riverside Theater. I went with two of my best friends and that in itself called for an amazing night. We got spots just in time to hear the opening act of a very similar duo called, Brasstracks open. They follow the same music trends as their lead act, Big G do. They incorporate lots of live instruments into their sets so that that sound is authentic. The only major difference is, they use a trumpet, while Big G is known for their saxophone solos. During the show, one of my friends was bold enough to reach out to the opening act via instagram and message them. She left them a note saying how we would love a chance to meet with them after the show. With little to no faith in an message back, she got a text from the lead trumpeter saying they would love to meet us after the show. We were absolutely ecstatic. We waited after the show after they took pictures with fans and got a chance to introduce ourselves. We met the manager first who then led us to the duo. They were more than thrilled to hang out with us and explore Milwaukee seeing as they’ve never been. We offered to go to a club nearby and...

How to be a Human Being

To finish off the week, I dive into the second album for Glass Animals. Now I will admit the first is an all-time favorite and a classic, but I was pleasantly surprised with the work they made for their second album. They brought new music out not too long after their first album that gave them their rise to stardom. The album is titled, ‘How to be a Human Being’. The album has 11 beautifully crafted songs that start to share a more acoustic sound than the synth pop they had in the previous album. I like the new sound and can still appreciate the old sound as well. When looking at the new songs they have listed they touch on several different emotions throughout. One of the songs that really stood out to me in this album was, ‘Agnes’. Written and sang by Dave from their group, it’s about being friends with someone who has struggled with drug addiction. Now I don’t personally relate to the song in that aspect but the song sympathizes for the abuser and wants to see them get better. I think it can sound a lot darker than it really is. The song is hopeful that Dave can help this person and wants to take this person back to a place before the addiction and make things right again. It’s beautifully made and the line right before the chorus erupts says, “I wanna hold you like your mine” and that always sticks with me when I hear it. It’s the sound of comfort and love and that’s what people really want.   Lyrics:...
