Safety in Schools
Charlie Kirk was assassinated on September 10, 2025. While visiting Utah Valley University he was shot in the neck and killed. The shooter 22-year-old Tyler Robinson. He killed Charlie because he didn’t agree with who Charlie was or what he stood for. After the shooting the rise in concern for public safety increase. Many students on campuses felt unsafe walking from class to class every day.
Whitewater, WI has about a 35/100 Total Crime Index. According to Neighborhood scout it says, “Whitewater, WI is safer than 35% of U.S. cities.” A few weeks ago, students reported of three masked individuals who were pounding on the doors of Wells East, one of the campuses residence halls, demanding for food. These three men were threating the residents with an alleged gun and were saying they would kill the students if they didn’t give them food. That same night also in Wells East there was a Sexual Assault report filed just hours after the three men stormed Wells East. Although campus should feel like a safe area there are many people who would disagree. The Charlie Kirk assassination was unfortunate and showed that many people feel unsafe on their campuses.
After the Charlie Kirk shooting, another known Christan advocate named Sister Cindy protested in Whitewater on the sidewalks of campus. Many students lined up to see her however many stayed away from the crowds in fear of what could happen. Steve Nelson, a student here was one of those students who wanted nothing to do with the crowds. He said, “I don’t want to be around the big crowd especially with what happened in Utah. I’m scared something like that might happen again and my parents don’t want me anywhere near that.”
With a hand full of students steering clear of Sister Cindy’s crowd there were still several students who wanted to listen to what she had to say. Rachel Kopes was one who wanted to be a part of the crowd. She stated, “I have seen Sister Cindy on Tik Tok and I wanted to see what she was like in real life. I don’t think there will be a shooting.”
The assassination of Charlie Kirk was very sad, and he shouldn’t have been killed over his beliefs. Now students across America in college campuses have to be on edge when a popular pollical figure comes to town.
