Well, here&#8217;s a publication to look at in honor of the world&#8217;s women:<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/www.uww.edu\/images\/library\/blog\/ww2010.jpg\" alt=\"World's Women cover\" class=\"alignright\" \/><a href=\"http:\/\/unstats.un.org\/unsd\/demographic\/products\/Worldswomen\/WW2010pub.htm\">The World&#8217;s Women 2010: Trends and Statistics<\/a> &#8211; This annual <a href=\"http:\/\/www.un.org\/en\/\">United Nation<\/a>s publication is a very eye-opening summary of how women are faring all over the globe. For example, chapter 5 on &#8220;Power and decision-making&#8221; will reveal that although women account for approximately half of the electorate: <\/p>\n<blockquote><p>\u2022 Becoming the Head of State or Head of Government remains elusive for women, with only 14 women in the world currently holding either position.<br \/>\n\u2022 In just 23 countries do women comprise a critical mass \u2013 over 30 per cent \u2013 in the lower or single house of their national parliament.<br \/>\n\u2022 Worldwide on average only one in six cabinet ministers is a woman.<br \/>\n\u2022 Women are highly underrepresented in decision-making positions at local government levels.<br \/>\n\u2022 In the private sector, women continue to be severely underrepresented in the top decisionmaking positions.<br \/>\n\u2022 Only 13 of the 500 largest corporations in the world have a female Chief Executive Officer.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/www.uww.edu\/images\/library\/blog\/wia2011.jpg\" alt=\"Women in America cover\" class=\"alignright\" \/>Also want to check out the U.S. Government &#8216;s report on <a href=\"http:\/\/www.whitehouse.gov\/sites\/default\/files\/rss_viewer\/Women_in_America.pdf\">Women in America: Indicators of Social and Economic Well-Being<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Please <a href=\"http:\/\/library.uww.edu\/askwi\/askwi.html\">ask a librarian<\/a> for assistance with finding materials.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>You&#8217;ve been seeing blog posts about films shown this month in honor of March being National Women\u2019s History Month.
