Do we all remember why *that* day is Veterans Day?? If not, the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.va.gov\/\">U.S. Dept. of Veterans Affairs<\/a> has a web page explaining its <a href=\"http:\/\/www1.va.gov\/opa\/vetsday\/vetdayhistory.asp\">history<\/a>. It&#8217;s a day to remember and &#8220;reflect on the sacrifice that veterans have made in service to their country.&#8221; A variety of events are scheduled all over campus:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><span style=\"color: #800000\"><strong>On exhibit until Nov. 15:<\/strong><\/span><strong><\/strong> <a href=\"http:\/\/uc.uww.edu\/common\/images\/Posters\/HistoricalMilitaryUniforms.pdf\"><strong>Historical Military Uniforms<\/strong><\/a>, featuring uniforms, photos, and awards (<a href=\"http:\/\/uc.uww.edu\/fiskum\/exhibits.html\">Roberta A. Fiskum Art Gallery<\/a>, James R. Connor University Center, mall level). Gallery hours are M-Th 10am-6pm, F 10am-3pm, closed Sat. &amp; Sun.<\/li>\n<li><span style=\"color: #800000\">Mon. Nov. 8: <strong>Women\u2019s Issues in the Military<\/strong><\/span> (10-11am, University Center 261) and <span style=\"color: #800000\"><strong>Transitioning from Combat to Campus<\/strong><\/span> (12-1:30pm, also in UC 261) presented by Lieutenant Colonel Cynthia Rasmussen, who has served as a Mental Health Nurse in the Army Reserves for 20 years and is currently serving in her 6th year of being mobilized to support the Global War on Terrorism.<\/li>\n<li><span style=\"color: #800000\">Tues., Nov. 9, 2-3pm:<\/span> A student panel will provide UWW <span style=\"color: #800000\"><strong>Veterans First Hand Accounts<\/strong><\/span> (UC Involvement Center).<\/li>\n<li><span style=\"color: #800000\">Wed., Nov. 10:<\/span>\n<ul>\n<li><span style=\"color: #800000\">9am-1pm:<\/span> <strong>Veterans Benefits and Resources Fair<\/strong> (UC commons) will feature representatives from a variety of veterans&#8217; state, county, community and campus resources, and the <a href=\"http:\/\/dryhootch.org\/\">Dryhootch.org<\/a> mobile coffee house will be parked outside the UC. Dryhootch.org is a &#8220;nonprofit formed by combat veterans to help veterans returning home.&#8221;<\/li>\n<li><span style=\"color: #800000\">7-10pm:<\/span> Watch the award-winning film <a href=\"http:\/\/www.imdb.com\/title\/tt0887912\/\"><strong><em>The Hurt Locker<\/em><\/strong><\/a> (UC Summers Auditorium) &#8211; free admission! Or, if you can&#8217;t make it to the public showing, <strong>Andersen Library has a copy of the film on DVD that UWW students &amp; staff can check out<\/strong> (2nd floor Feature Film DVDs, alphabetical by title&#8211;so look for it under &#8220;Hur&#8221;).<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li><span style=\"color: #800000\">Thurs., Nov. 11:<\/span>\n<ul>\n<li><span style=\"color: #800000\">11am-2pm:<\/span> <strong>Free lunch for veterans<\/strong>&#8211;with their military ID or DD214&#8211;at any UWW dining facility<\/li>\n<li><span style=\"color: #800000\">11am:<\/span> <strong>Veterans Recognition Ceremony<\/strong> with student and community speakers on the importance of Veteran\u2019s Day (Alumni Center)<\/li>\n<li><strong><span style=\"color: #800000\">12noon:<\/span> <strong>Veteran\u2019s Center Dedication<\/strong> in <a href=\"http:\/\/library.uww.edu\/\">Andersen Library<\/a>, 2nd floor<\/strong><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"color: #800000\">12:30pm-1:30pm:<\/span><strong> reception for Fiskum Gallery exhibit <\/strong><a href=\"http:\/\/uc.uww.edu\/common\/images\/Posters\/HistoricalMilitaryUniforms.pdf\"><strong>Historical  Military Uniforms<\/strong><\/a><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li><span style=\"color: #800000\">Sat., Nov. 13, 9am-halftime: <\/span><strong>Military Appreciation Day at the football game (vs. <a href=\"http:\/\/www.uwlathletics.com\/index.aspx?tab=football&amp;path=football\">UW-La Crosse<\/a>, game starts at 1pm)<\/strong>. Everyone is invited to show their appreciation of veterans in the parking lot at Perkins Stadium, and there will be halftime recognition of student and community veterans.
