Film showings in the Library"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>To celebrate Earth Day (Thursday, April 22), the Andersen Library is showing films on April 19-April 22 which are free and open to all! These films will be shown on the main floor of the Library in the TV area.<\/p>\n<p>The films and their dates\/showtimes are:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Monday, April 19: <em>Addicted to Plastic<\/em><\/strong> \u2013 10 am, Noon, 2 pm, 4 pm, 6 pm, and 8 pm<br \/>\n<em><em>Addicted to Plastic<\/em><\/em> \u201creveals the history and worldwide scope of plastics pollution, investigates its toxicity and explores solutions.\u201d<\/li>\n<li><strong>Tuesday, April 20: <em>Homo Toxicus<\/em><\/strong> \u2013 10 am, Noon, 2 pm, 4 pm, 6 pm, and 8 pm<br \/>\n<em>Homo Toxicus<\/em> \u201cexplores the links between the hundreds of toxic pollutants in our environment and increasing health problems.\u201d<\/li>\n<li><strong>Wednesday, April 21: <em>Up Close and Toxic<\/em><\/strong> \u2013 10 am, Noon, 2 pm, 4 pm, 6 pm, and 8 pm<br \/>\n<em>Up Close and Toxic<\/em> \u201cexamines the alarming levels of pollutants inside<br \/>\nour homes and suggests ways to reduce them.\u201d<\/li>\n<li><strong>Thursday, April 22: <em>Playing with Poison<\/em><\/strong> \u2013 10 am, Noon, 2 pm, 4 pm, 6 pm, and 8 pm<br \/>\n<em>Playing with Poison<\/em> depicts an American anthropologist as he investigates the side-effects on children of pesticide use.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>*All film descriptions were taken from the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.bullfrogfilms.com\/subjects\/environment.html\">Bullfrog Films web site<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>And be sure to check out the Decomposition Timeline in the display case next to our entrance doors! Here are a few facts that may surprise you: a plastic beverage cup takes <strong>250 years<\/strong> to decompose. Think that&#8217;s bad? A plastic beverage bottle and a plastic 6-pack holder both take <strong>450 years<\/strong>! And the worst? Glass bottles. They take <strong><em>one MILLION years<\/em><\/strong> to decompose. Something to think about the next time you toss a bottle into the trash!<\/p>\n<p>For books or government documents about recycling or the environment, search <a href=\"http:\/\/wtwlib.wisconsin.edu\/vwebv\/searchBasic\">HALCAT<\/a>, the Library&#8217;s online catalog.
