July 22, 1934"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/John_Dillinger\">John Dillinger<\/a> was killed as he left Chicago&#8217;s Biograph Theatre after attending the gangster film <em>Manhattan Melodrama<\/em> on this date (July 22nd) in 1934.<\/p>\n<p>You may have seen the currently-playing film <a href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Public_Enemies_%282009_film%29\"><em>Public Enemies<\/em><\/a> starring Johnny Depp (I did!), which was partially filmed in Wisconsin. It&#8217;s based on the book <a href=\"http:\/\/books.google.com\/books?id=X0sdAQAACAAJ&amp;dq=Public+enemies:+America%E2%80%99s+greatest+crime+wave&amp;ei=NihnSpexFJjGM_nP6McB\"><em>Public enemies: America&#8217;s greatest crime wave and the birth of the FBI, 1933\u201334<\/em><\/a>. The book is available to UWW students and staff from other UW campus libraries by using the free <a href=\"http:\/\/wtwlib.wisconsin.edu\/cgi-bin\/Pwebrecon.cgi?DB=local&amp;PAGE=dbPage\">Universal Borrowing<\/a> service (requested materials arrive in 2-4 weekdays).
