{"id":270,"date":"2008-05-22T07:05:25","date_gmt":"2008-05-22T13:05:25","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/blogs.uww.edu\/library\/archives\/270"},"modified":"2008-05-15T21:01:46","modified_gmt":"2008-05-16T03:01:46","slug":"memorial-day-information","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blogs.uww.edu\/library\/archives\/270","title":{"rendered":"Memorial Day information"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/www.uww.edu\/images\/library\/blog\/anc.jpg\" alt=\"Arlington National Cemetery\" align=\"right\" \/><font color=\"#000080\"><strong>We observe Memorial Day on May 26th.<\/strong><\/font> Although a Gallup Poll has shown that very few of us (28%) actually know what this day is about, it really <u>isn&#8217;t<\/u> just a day off from work and school!<\/p>\n<p>The <a href=\"http:\/\/www1.va.gov\/opa\/speceven\/memday\/index.asp\"><strong><font color=\"#ff0000\">U.S. Dept. of Veterans Affairs<\/font><\/strong><\/a> provides the history of Memorial Day as well as a history of Taps, <a href=\"http:\/\/www1.va.gov\/vetdata\/\"><font color=\"#ff0000\">veterans statistics<\/font><\/a>, information about displaying and folding the flag, and more.<\/p>\n<p>The White House Commission on Remembrance has information about the Congressionally-established <strong><a href=\"http:\/\/www.remember.gov\/MomentofRemembrance\/tabid\/54\/Default.aspx\"><font color=\"#ff0000\">National Moment of Remembrance<\/font><\/a><\/strong> (3 pm on Memorial Day).<\/p>\n<p>The General Services Adminstration&#8217;s <strong><a href=\"http:\/\/www.usa.gov\/Topics\/Memorial_Day.shtml\"><font color=\"#ff0000\">USA.gov<\/font><\/a><\/strong> site has links to information about the day as well links to practical information for those of us who will be grilling, boating, etc.<\/p>\n<p>Finally, if you&#8217;re in Whitewater on the 26th you can watch the parade (begins on Main St. at First Citizens Bank).<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/www.uww.edu\/images\/library\/blog\/gpologo.gif\" class=\"alignright\" alt=\"Government Printing Office logo\" height=\"58\" width=\"60\" \/><\/p>\n<p class=\"small\">The University Library is a federal depository with many federal, state, local, and international documents on a variety of current and relevant issues available to you in print, microfiche, CD-ROM, and electronically.
