On November 11th<\/sup>, UW-W celebrated Veterans Day.\nHere at Andersen Library, we wanted to express our honor for the veterans on\ncampus and share some information about how we like to support vets in the\nlibrary. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

On both the UW-Whitewater and UW-Whitewater at Rock County\ncampuses, there are 425 Veterans, Military Service and Family Members. In order\nto serve these veterans, Andersen Library welcomes veterans as students to utilize\nthe UW-W Veterans and Service Members Lounge, commonly referred to as the\nVeterans Lounge, located on the second floor of the library, room 2208A.  <\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cThe Veterans Lounge in Andersen Library is a really great place\nfor veterans to hang out and meet other vets, do homework, or just relax,\u201d said\nVeterans Benefits Coordinator\/Office Manager, Amy Moore.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Committed to ensuring Veterans are successful here at UW-Whitewater\nand UW-Whitewater at Rock County, Coordinator of Student Veterans &\nMilitary Services, Richard Harris agrees on the importance of the Veterans\nLounge in Andersen Library. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cThe veterans use the lounge to develop relationships that\nwill provide support as they pursue their educational goals,\u201d said Harris. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Used on a daily basis, the Veteran\u2019s Lounge provides a safe\nspace on campus for veterans to connect and decompress in-between classes. This\nlounge includes two computers, study space, television, mini-fridge, microwave,\nand separate meeting rooms for veterans to use. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

As Chapter President of the Student Veterans Organization, a\nchapter of Student Veterans of America, Curtis Lemke values the social environment\nthat the Veterans Lounge provides. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cWe swap stories from our time in the military and complain\nabout the workload and deadlines from professors. We discuss problems we are\nfacing and get advice about how to overcome them from other student veterans\nwho have faced similar situations,\u201d said Lemke. \u201cThe Veterans Lounge is where\nwe foster friendships. It is the campus hub for the veteran\u2019s community.\u201d <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Here at Andersen Library, it is an honor to provide this\nspace for veterans to be themselves and connect with other Warhawks.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
