Would you prefer a volcanic ash cloud and the evacuation of entire communities? The <a href=\"http:\/\/www.accuweather.com\/en\/weather-news\/breaking-calbuco-erupts-forces\/46042985\" title=\"news about the Cabulco volcano eruption from AccuWeather.com\" target=\"_blank\">Calbuco volcano erupted Wednesday<\/a>, producing a huge ash cloud in southern Chile and prompting the evacuation of people living in the area.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/www.uww.edu\/images\/library\/blog\/volcanobook.jpg\" alt=\"cover of The Volcano Adventure Guide\" class=\"alignright\" \/>Experiencing a real volcano erupting isn&#8217;t &#8220;fun&#8221; of course, but learning more about them is because they&#8217;re, well, fascinating. Items requested from other UWs take 3-5 weekdays to arrive. There also are fiction books, such as Harry Turtledove&#8217;s Supervolcano series (<em>Things fall apart<\/em><\/a>, no. 3 in the series, is in 2nd-floor Browsing Books at PS3570.U76 S89 2013).<\/p>\n<p>The government provides information about real volcanic activity. The <a href=\"http:\/\/volcano.si.edu\/reports_weekly.cfm\" title=\"Global Volcanism Project web site\" target=\"_blank\">Global Volcanism Project<\/a>, a product of cooperation between the Smithsonian Institution&#8217;s Museum of Natural History and the <a href=\"http:\/\/volcanoes.usgs.gov\/\" title=\"Volcano Hazards Program, U.S. Geological Survey, web site\" target=\"_blank\">U.S. Geological Survey&#8217;s Volcano Hazards Program<\/a>, lists and maps volcanic activity all over the globe, updated every Wednesday.<\/p>\n<p>We&#8217;ve barely scratched the surface!
