December 28 is the anniversary of the Endangered Species Act being signed by President Nixon in 1973. That’s right, it’s the 40th anniversary of this legislation.<\/p>\n

Visit Endangered Species<\/a> web pages for information and activities in honor of this anniversary, including history, an interactive map to learn about endangered species in each of the 50 states, and coloring pages<\/a>. Click “Species” on the blue navigation bar to see lists of endangered species (U.S. or foreign), or make other choices, such as to learn about recovery plans.<\/p>\n

Wisconsin’s first list of endangered and threatened species followed enactment of state legislation in 1972, and the current list is available online from the Wisconsin Dept. of Natural Resources<\/a>.<\/p>\n
