Many locations are holding mothing events during this week. How will you celebrate? This is an opportunity to get involved in citizen science!<\/p>\n<p>Moths are incredibly diverse, and there are many more species than most people realize. I also never appreciated how beautiful many of them are until I saw an exhibit at a natural science museum a few years ago.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright\" src=\"http:\/\/www.uww.edu\/images\/library\/blog\/natmothwk.jpg\" alt=\"screen shot of National Moth Week web site\" \/>The web site offers links to some resources, including online <a title=\"online moth identification guides\" href=\"http:\/\/www.discoverlife.org\/moth\/identification.html\" target=\"_blank\">identification guides<\/a> and online tips for photographing these nocturnal beauties. Also see the <a title=\"Butterfiles and Moths of North America (BAMONA) web site\" href=\"http:\/\/www.butterfliesandmoths.org\/\" target=\"_blank\">Butterfiles and Moths of North America (BAMONA)<\/a> database, which also offers a stunning image gallery. Data for this web site comes from all kinds of sources, including museums, published sources, professional scientists, and maybe you! Citizen scientists can submit observations and photographs. The Wisconsin Dept. of Natural Resources also has <a title=\"Wisconsin's rare butterflies and moths web site\" href=\"http:\/\/dnr.wi.gov\/topic\/EndangeredResources\/Animals.asp?mode=list&amp;Grp=9\" target=\"_blank\">lists<\/a> (with links to images) of rare and declining (&#8220;watch list&#8221;) butterflies and moths.<\/p>\n<p>Andersen Library has resources too!
