{"id":144,"date":"2009-04-04T12:55:01","date_gmt":"2009-04-04T18:55:01","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/blogs.uww.edu\/lgbtforce\/?p=144"},"modified":"2009-04-04T13:02:58","modified_gmt":"2009-04-04T19:02:58","slug":"way-to-go-iowa","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blogs.uww.edu\/lgbtcommittee\/?p=144","title":{"rendered":"Way To Go, Iowa!"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>When one thinks of Iowa, &#8216;liberal hotbed&#8217; isn&#8217;t something that springs to mind, does it?<\/p>\n<p>Well, Iowa <a href=\"http:\/\/www.cnn.com\/2009\/POLITICS\/04\/03\/iowa.same.sex\/index.html\">struck down its same-sex marriage ban<\/a> yesterday. The Midwestern state becomes the third in the nation, along with Massachusetts and Connecticut, to allow these unions. In twenty days, the state will <a href=\"\">begin to issue marriage licenses to same-sex couples<\/a>, when the ruling takes effect.<\/p>\n<p>This is fantastic news, but from what it seems like, it&#8217;s far from over (no surprise there). Groups like the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.ifpc.org\">Iowa Family Policy Center<\/a> have already mobilized and are preparing to fight the new law.<\/p>\n<p>And of course, Iowa&#8217;s not alone in its marriage equality &#8211; we could see <a href=\"http:\/\/www.boston.com\/news\/local\/vermont\/articles\/2009\/04\/03\/vt_house_advances_bill_for_gay_marriage\/\">another state go &#8216;pro-gay marriage&#8217; shortly<\/a>: Vermont (I&#8217;ve heard as early as next week).<\/p>\n<p>We&#8217;ll just have to wait and see if this affects policies and laws in surrounding states&#8230; =)<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>When one thinks of Iowa, &#8216;liberal hotbed&#8217; isn&#8217;t something that springs to mind, does it?
