Crossing the campus mall at University of Wisconsin-Whitewater<\/p><\/div>\n

An Associate Professor in the Department of Languages and Literatures at the University of Wisconsin-Whitewater, I am on\u00a0sabbatical from my home university while I\u00a0teach during part of the Fall 2013 semester at the University of Constantine the Philosopher in Nitra Slovakia. I teach courses in writing, linguistics, and literature.\u00a0 In Slovakia, I am teaching a course in General Linguistics<\/a> and in the Pragmatics of Translation<\/a>.\u00a0 My primary research interests concern cultural, aesthetic, and linguistic relationships between Slovak and English.\u00a0 You may wish\u00a0to view\u00a0my vita<\/a>\u00a0in order to get a more specific sense of my scholarly activity.\u00a0\u00a0 During my Fulbright year in Slovakia (2006-7), I blogged on some social<\/a> and structural<\/a> characteristics of language, which are especially evident when different languages rub edges, and invited students to contribute in building a\u00a0site called\u00a0Pre\u010do m\u00e1m r\u00e1d sloven\u010dinu<\/a>\u00a0 in order to explore further how English and Slovak are differently contextualized.\u00a0 Now I wish to extend the discussion to address issues in literary translation<\/a>.<\/p>\n

At the University of Wisconsin-Whitewater<\/a>, I work in\u00a0Laurentide Hall<\/a>, a newly renovated building constructed with energy efficiency in mind.<\/p>\n

My family consists of my wife, Elizabeth<\/a>, my daughter\u00a0\u017eofia<\/a>, and my sons, Kyle<\/a>\u00a0and\u00a0Peyton<\/a>.<\/p>\n
