I have been a part of this undergraduate research group since I was a freshman and I genuinely don’t understand how people just go to class and do college normally.

By being a part of this undergraduate research program, I have been given the opportunity to travel all over the country to present at the Geological Society of America and the National Conference for Undergraduate Research. I have also found my way to working on Indigenous tribal land and spending a summer working at the Lava Centre in Iceland.

I also am a teaching assistant for our Intro to Geology course here and help to create and set up the labs for the students to do. I have been doing this for several semesters and have a strong ability to teach and convey information for people inexperienced in the field of geology.

Outside of the lab, I am a member of the UW-Whitewater marching band and have been able to perform in front of thousands of people and at Camp Randall. I am a member of several other musical ensembles and have traveled to perform in Chicago and at Carnegie hall.

To say my life would be different if Juk did not flag down my mom and I during my freshman tour would be an understatement. So much of what I do now and what I want to do is thanks to participating in this research. My current goals are to continue my education with a Master’s in volcanology or geochemistry.

Major: Geography Emphasis: Geology Minor: Music and Environmental Science Year: Senior Projects: Curriculum Vitae (CV) Bio: My name is Dean Wink and I am a geology major with music and environmental science minors.
