The creation of online journalism itself is a testament to the beginning of the rapid change on how we intake the news as well as report it. Many different characteristics change with it as well. For example, everyone in todays modern time can call themselves a journalist without even going to school for it. Take for example the creation of Armchair Journalists, people who report the news without actually having to be at the scene, but instead can be reporting these facts from the comfort of their own home. In a way though it is benefitting the scape of online journalism in the sense that people are able to obtain important information at a quicker pace, and with the inclusion of social media websites like X or Facebook, people are just as likely to obtain their news quicker than say waiting for the daily paper or the local news on television, so much so that many popular traditional print companies such as The Washington Post and The New York Times are now submitting the same news story in different platforms such as social media, print, web, television etc. With the ever-growing idea of Convergence in Journalism, many journalists in the field also have to have a knowledge on how to work different media platforms that they might not be as familiar with in order to get one news story out. Like say for example a Journalist is reporting on a story, in order for them to report the news to everyone they would have to make a print article as well as a broadcasted package to name a few. I will say though that the 24/7 news cycle is heavily amplified with the web. Meaning that no matter what time of the day, what part of the country or even the world you are in, whenever news happens, someone, whether it be a journalist with a background or someone posting on their social media page, will report that news right away, which can affect different companies since the earliest a news site can report, the more traffic will be lead to your website, which will better you and your news company as a whole with an increase in credibility, brand awareness and the possibility of selling regular subscriptions.
