Online Journalism Structures

A journalist was once defined as someone who writes and reports on the news, but as times have changed, so have the definition and types of journalists. Journalism has expanded beyond the traditional meaning with the rise of technology. A journalist is a professional and reliable news source. They’ve done the research and fact-checking before sharing that information with the public. The growth of technology has given regular everyday people the chance to be journalists who share news. The news cycle, while it’s always been continuous, has grown to be nonstop 24/7 coverage occurring online. Most if not all major news organizations such as CNN have an online presence. CNN is a news source I have come across on X in particular. I think the constant coverage and potential for anybody to share a story has caused some negligence from existing reputable journalists, but it’s also forcing them to be more thorough and correct their mistakes faster. Convergence has allowed for news organizations to distribute their information in multiple areas however modular content has added multiple formats and updates to a story through text, video, photos, etc.
