A journalist used to be a simple term. Formally, it was someone employed by a news organization to find newsworthy stories and have the information gathered displayed to the public. Nowadays, it feels like anyone could be a journalist. Specifically with the use of social media platforms like X and Facebook, anyone can post anything they please about the news. There’s a range of employed journalists that have the credentials and are a part of a news organization, while on another note, there are civilian journalists who utilize blogging sites and social media to get their stories on the web. Leading to a 24/7 cycle of news that is easily accessible through the web with convergence. Before, the best ways to access news would be via the newspaper and television networks, but now it’s as simple as typing in a URL on your smartphone or computer. For example, The Washington Post was formally exclusively newspapers. The only way to access news from The Washington Post was to secure a newspaper by them. Now, you can easily access their news stories via the web and certain apps. Modular content has ensured that news is consistently updated to keep the facts straight. There is almost always an update on a story with new evidence and sources giving the information to journalists.
