My Digital Self

Nowadays it is very easy to access news through the internet. But there are also other ways to consume news like through television, social media, newspaper, and others. There’s also many of levels of news to access in these many ways.

For me, I utilize social media to access national/international news. As a sports fan, I have found that social media is the best way to access news for the leagues and variety of sports I watch. I usually monitor roster moves around the sports I watch through social media as that is what I tend to look at most. State wise, I utilize the internet a little bit more. Usually, I look at sites to see what kind of law/bill was passed in the state of Illinois so I can quickly lean and adapt to it. For local news I like to take a look at local tv channels to access news. For me though, it is usually boring since where I am from, there’s not a whole lot going on.

Unlike some, I do not really follow news from my hometown. Mainly because where I am from is very boring and doesn’t have a lot of newsworthy things going on. But when it comes down to looking at sports news, my go to is espn.com. It is by far one of, if not the best site for me to access sports moves around the world and it’s through just one site and is very easy to access on Google. With that, I do not utilize AI to access news.

For me, social media is the way to access news, mainly because you have credible sources being able to allow the general public to interact with the news they serve on a public format. One comment can lead to a chain of conversations on a post and thousands to millions can like a post and showcase a source’s credibility. When I consume news, I like to look at graphics with text to see the full story of a story, and social media allows me to do that and see other people’s opinions on top of the facts.

For example, when Lewis Hamilton made the announcement, he was going to Ferrari, there were sources posting rumors about it originally. It wasn’t until later in the day when Hamilton himself posted his announcement that he was officially leaving Mercedes and flipping to Ferrari. It flipped the sports world upside down and especially the Formula 1 community. With the sport’s most popular driver going to the sport’s most popular team. And seeing the public’s reaction was priceless, as the move was never to be expected since Hamilton had been a part of the Mercedes family since he was a kid karting.
