Wednesday evenings in Oak Creek and West Allis just got a little tastier with more than a dozen different food trucks pulling in to serve their best gourmet food. Every other Wednesday evening at 4 to 9 p.m. through summer into the end of September citizens have the opportunity to come out and have a gourmet meal in minuets.
This event provides a light social atmosphere with live entertainment, games such as bag toss, as well as many drinks. With the event located at the Farmers Market Square it provides the perfect place to catch dinner on a beautiful night outside before the cold weather creeps upon us.
Food Trucks that rolled into the farmers market included; JJs Wood Grill, Pig Tailz, Jamaican Kitchen & Grill, Double B’s, Lumpia City, BJC, Gypsy Soul, Fox Fire, The Twisted Chefs, Matty’s Bar, and other stands selling fresh squeezed lemonade, mini donuts, and hot chocolate.
Food from these trucks ranged from Jamaican, Philippine, East Indian, Mexican, and of course American favorites. With a variety of options the market is able to fill everyone’s crave.
I had the opportunity to talk to one of the Vendors, Justin Kling Owner of Pig Tailz, who spent time working as an Executive Chef at the Horny Goat before they closed. Had tossed around ideas of what to do next to be creative in the food industry that is when he stumbled upon the idea of a food truck.
“Me and my partner, Jordan had a little hot dog cart last year, and it blew up out of the water last year, and everyone loved us. We decided to expand so now we have two of these. Next year we will have another concept. We are going to do different businesses,” said Justin Kling.
After tasting the pork tacos from the Pig Tailz it is no wonder why they were well loved. The pork was tender, juicy, and full of flavor. It was too bad the market is done for the season; I would be a very frequent customer.
Vendor from the mini donut and lemonade stand shared her love for the communities feel with me.
“There are a lot of different cuisines that you don’t get to see anywhere else. It’s nice to meet all the different people and be among the public,” said Elizabeth.
My mouth is already watering thinking about all new plates of food offered next summer.
