Homecoming season is drawing closer and closer, and many student organizations are getting ready for the week of festivities.<\/p>\n
On Monday, October 1 at 9:15pm, the UW-Whitewater Homecoming Committee held the second of three informational meetings for this year\u2019s week of events, starting October 14-20. Events include a Study Night, a Glow Night with several games pitting orgs against each other, the annual Variety Show, the Homecoming parade and more.<\/p>\n
During this past meeting more in-depth information was discussed about all the events that will take place during Homecoming Week, whereas the first meeting (September 24) was more of an introductory meeting when discussing the events.<\/p>\n
The first meeting also discussed the theme for homecoming which is \u201cTo Whitewater and Beyond: Blastoff Date 1868\u201d, referencing futuristic, outer-space feel.<\/p>\n
\u201cAfter 150 years strong,\u201d the description in the Homecoming Informational Packet reads, \u201cwe\u2019re here to celebrate what Whitewater has accomplished and where the future will take us as we reach for the stars.\u201d<\/p>\n
\u201cStudents, Community, Staff and Alumni are encouraged to participate through the events as well as celebrating being a Warhawk of the Past, Present and especially Future.\u201d<\/p>\n
Dan Miller, a senior at UW-Whitewater who is involved with the campus radio station, 91.7 The Edge, is excited to be a part of the festivities.<\/p>\n
\u201cHomecoming is always a fun time here,\u201d he said. \u201cI\u2019m excited for the Glow Night, since it\u2019s a brand new thing they are doing. But honestly, the entire week should be awesome.\u201d<\/p>\n
Miller also talked about how he thinks the station will fare during the competitions this year.<\/p>\n
\u201cOf course we want to win it, especially after coming in second last year,\u201d Miller said. \u201cBut the biggest thing is making sure we all have fun, too.\u201d<\/p>\n
There are several divisions during the competitions: Greek, Residence Hall, Small Student Organization and Large Student Organization. Based on how groups do events, they earn points to obtain the Homecoming Champion\u2019s Trophy. Every division will have a Champion\u2019s Trophy.<\/p>\n
The James R. Connor Spirt Cup is awarded to the team that shows the most spirit and Warhawk pride, and is only given to one team encompassing all divisions.<\/p>\n
Jamison Lee, also a member of 91.7 The Edge, plans to audition for the Variety Show.<\/p>\n
\u201cI think it\u2019ll be a fun time representing the radio station in a scenario like that,\u201d Lee said. \u201cSeeing how the other orgs do during the show will be just as fun.<\/p>\n
The third and final Homecoming Informational Meeting will be held on Monday, October 8 at 9:15pm in the Summers Auditorium.<\/p>\n
