Assignment 1: Your Digital Self

I typically try to stay away from the news. I do not watch or read the news, and while I understand it is important to know what is going on in the world, I see the news as primarily negative. I try not to consume negative energy and that is what I see the news as. The way that I get informed about news in my hometown is through my father. He is the fire chief for the city that I live in, so I get all my information through him. If I were to visit news sites, I typically look at the NY Times or I will search up the subject matter and look at the first couple websites that pop up. Again, I do not have a favorite news site due to the fact that I do not indulge into the news. However, I primarily use Google as my search engine when I do. The way I prefer to consume news is through news videos and text. I feel that those are also my favorite because they are the easiest for me to comprehend. If I am reading an article is more for trying to see how different journalists write and go about stories, but news videos are the most efficient way for me to take in the information. I have never interacted with the news by any means. I have never made a comment or emailed a reporter. Social media does sometimes lead me to news. The two biggest ones I would say are Snapchat and Instagram. I do not really rely on my friends for news updates because you cannot believe anything on the internet. I mainly just trust my dad because, in my eyes, he has a really good perspective and the best judgement. I do not use twitter at all. I read blogs that come off of Bleacher Report, but that is for only sports. I do read a lot of sports blogs because that is what I am mainly into. There is one podcast I listen to every time that it comes out and it is my favorite artist’s podcast. It is called “The Ya Neva Know Podcast” and it is centered on self-development and interesting stories of his and his friends he brings on. I will also occasionally listen to the “Joe Rogan Podcast” if he has guests that I am really interested in. The fake news debacle is something I try to avoid altogether. I tend to not believe any lick of news online unless I see the same thing over and over again from credible websites. There have been plenty times where I have thought a story was legitimate and found out it was fake. A lot of that happens on Instagram with sports updates. A lot of them have to do with fake trades and signings. However, I do not think I have ever ran into that issue in the news realm.
