The Wells Building at the University of Wisconsin Whitewater over the past couple of years has been a hit or miss for students.
Some students like it, while others do not.
The Wells building has two sections that are combined into one building.
The Wells Hall has a Wells West building and a Wells East building and they both share the same lounge area, front desk area, lobby, and laundry room.
The building is also known for having a coffeehouse called Jitters where according to the UWW website, they have comedy shows, live performances, acoustic music, game nights, and they also sometimes have smoothie nights (University of Wisconsin Whitewater).
The Wells building has been around the University of Wisconsin Whitewater since the 1960s.
According to the UWW website, “Wells West Hall and Wells East Hall were completed in 1966 and were named in honor of Cord O. Wells who served as vice president of academic affairs from 1925 to 1967” (University of Wisconsin Whitewater).
Wells dorm residents as wells as the front desk assistants have had mixed thoughts about the Wells building.
“I like the Wells building specifically because of much additional things they have here like for example Jitters, I love going to Jitters all the time and no other dorms don’t have that,” said Wells front desk assistant Jaime Rasmussen.
Rasmussen also said, “I also just like the environment of the building because it’s a lot livelier and there is more residence here and there is more that is going on and I enjoy that.”
Rasmussen believes that the building should stay as is and not add any features to it.
Students who are residence at the Wells building might have different opinions of the residence hall.
“The biggest con that I have about it is that it’s pretty far from my classes,” said Wells East resident Tyler Wagner.
He continued and added, “Occasionally, the elevators would stop working.”
Wagner also said that he wishes Jitters would be open more often and thinks that there should be a place where people can get food like a sandwich shop, so that way students will not have to walk out of the building to go get food.
Senior Complex Director of Wells West Cole Crotteau understands the cons students have about the building, but believes the Wells building will be in great shape in the future.
“We are probably the farthest building from campus,” said Crotteau. “Wells itself holds one-third of the on campus living population
Crotteau continued and said, “We also have Jitters, Esports arena, and weightlifting center.”
He also said that the living population has increased because of the Coronavirus.
He said it was down at first, but increased as the years went by.
“One thing that would be interesting to add is something food related because that would really complete the whole aspect of you don’t have to leave the building to do the things you do,” said Crotteau.
While Wells is one of the oldest dorm building here at the University of Wisconsin Whitewater, it still has some fun events and nice dorm rooms.
