{"id":103,"date":"2011-08-15T17:40:02","date_gmt":"2011-08-15T23:40:02","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/blogs.uww.edu\/instructional\/?p=103"},"modified":"2011-08-18T09:56:01","modified_gmt":"2011-08-18T15:56:01","slug":"get-a-jump-start-using-d2l-in-your-course","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blogs.uww.edu\/instructional\/2011\/08\/15\/get-a-jump-start-using-d2l-in-your-course\/","title":{"rendered":"Get a Jump Start Using D2L in Your Course!"},"content":{"rendered":"<div>\n<div>\n<p>Don\u2019t reinvent the wheel \u2014 use the\u00a0<strong>\u201cD2L Starter Course (v.2)\u201d <\/strong>developed to allow you to quickly leverage D2L in an online, hybrid, or face-to-face class format.<\/p>\n<p>The recently updated\u00a0<strong>D2L Starter Course (v.2)<\/strong> is a D2L course that includes a number of useful templates and other resources available for you to copy and modify for use in your D2L courses. The templates provided meet Quality Matters guidelines. Faculty and Staff who have used the D2L \u201cStart Module\u201d in the past will be interested in exploring the new resources available, including the following items:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>a\u00a0<strong>D2L Rubric Tool<\/strong> for online discussions that can be linked to the gradebook or the dropbox<\/li>\n<li>an\u00a0<strong>\u201cAre You Ready for Online\u201d quiz<\/strong> intended to help students build their confidence and encourage success when taking an online course<\/li>\n<li>a\u00a0<strong>mid-course student evaluation survey<\/strong> to help you gauge that the course is meeting your (and your students\u2019) expectations<\/li>\n<li>a\u00a0<strong>Lockdown Browser quiz <\/strong>to ensure your students are prepared to take a D2L quiz that is set up to use Lockdown Brower<\/li>\n<li>suggested\u00a0<strong>wording for News announcements <\/strong>to post in online, hybrid, and web-enhanced courses<\/li>\n<li><strong>discussion starter ideas<\/strong> for online discussions administered in the D2L discussion forum<\/li>\n<li><strong>activity templates<\/strong> for commentaries, assignments, and discussions<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>We welcome any suggestions or comments about the new starter course. For questions of more information, please contact the Learning Technology Center at\u00a0<a href=\"mailto:ltc@uww.edu\">ltc@uww.edu<\/a> or at 262-472-1004.<\/p>\n<h3>How to Register for Starter Course<a id=\"registerstarter\"><\/a><\/h3>\n<p>To register for this course, log into D2L, click on the &#8220;Self-Registration&#8221; link (located in the upper-right hand corner of the page near the &#8220;Logout&#8221; link), and then click on the title &#8220;D2L Starter Course (v.2).&#8221; Once the &#8220;Self Registering Course Offerings&#8221; screen opens, click on &#8220;D2L Starter Course (v.2)&#8221; then click on the &#8220;Register&#8221; button at the bottom right of the screen. After registering you will see &#8220;D2L Starter Course (v.2)&#8221; appear within your &#8220;Instructor tab&#8221; in the folder entitled &#8220;OTHER &#8211; Courses With No Semester.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Once registered, you may review the various tools and resources available to copy into your course.\u00a0<strong>Please do not edit the original &#8220;D2L Starter Course (v.2)&#8221;.
