New Music???

Today will be the last post for the semester (yes I know you’re devastated) and will be an easy one: In an attempt to remain abreast of new music, I’d like to know what you’ve been listening to lately on your mp3 player (IPOD, ZUNE, etc.).

Sadly to say I don’t listen to music very much but only on the radio. I usually listen to 103.7 or 102.1. I’ve been listening to some Christmas music to get me in the holidiay season as well.

  3. Jimmy Lee says:

Akon-Right now, Chris Brown-Superhuman, Kanye West-Heartless, just to name a few.

    Marvelous question!

I listen to quite a bit from the ’60s (typical, I know)… but I do have some great recommendations for current music:

Xavier Rudd (one man band, plays the didgeridoo… I’ve seen him three times in concert… AMAZING)

Iron & Wine (laid-back, beautiful voice, one man who obtains other musicians as necessary, lots of acoustic guitar)

    Beruit (HORNS! Beautiful mail voice)

    Aesop Rock (hip-hop)

Ani Difrance (you have to listen to her! I saw her in Chicago this semester… amazing woman… been making music for 30 years)

    Beck

    Ben Harper

    Cake

    Dispatch

    Fat Freddy’s Drop

    Gogol Bordello

Jack Johnson (did the soundtrack for Curious George)

    Joanna Newsom

    Keb’ Mo’

    Kings of Leon

Les Claypool / Primus (BASS GOD.)

    Matisyahu

    Minus the Bear

    moe.

    Morphine (saxophone!)

Peter Mulvey (local grassroots artist, plays at Cafe Carpe in Fort Atkinson a few times a year)

The Raconteurs (AMAZING. Lead singer of White Stripes)

    Regina Spektor

    Rufus Wainwright (brilliant)

    Sigu Ros (Icelandic, amazing)

    Taj Mahal

    Tenacious D

Tom Waits (you would never have expected this)

That’s all I’ve got. Seriously, though… I hope you check out my recommendations on http://www.last.fm

    Enjoy over the winter time!

Peace! (Great class, by the way… much appreciated.)

Oh! I just wanted to suggest typing any of those bands name into the search engine on: http://www.last.fm

You can find a bunch of related music and listen for free. It’s a marvelous site!

In all honestly the only music I listen to regularly is childrens music…Lets see there is:
The Laurie Berkner Band ( some seriously addicting music)
    The Backyardigans
    Raffi
and in the car my daughter has The Jonas Brothers on repeat…but she does throw in Faith Hill and Tim Mcgraw, The PussyCat Dolls,Avril Lavine, leona Lewis and whoever sings ‘Shut Up and Let Me Go’
I myself like mostly R&B….Alicia Keys is my favorite….

  9. Abbey Davis says:

I don’t really have anyone in particular that I always am listening to. I love a ton of different styles of music, so pickong just one is really hard. Currently I’ve been listening to a lot of Taylor Swift, and Davis Archuleta. Just becuase their CDs have reciently been released. I also listen to a lot of Alakrity. They’re a band from Beloit, and they’re really good.

  10. Cathy Lucarz says:

I listen to a variety of music, I can’t listen to many songs all the way through either- I get bored! Recently I’ve been listening to Taylor Swift’s new CD, Britney Spears, Jack Johnson, All Time Low, Akon…well the list goes on and on.

Well, I hate to respond to this post because it will date me. I waited to see what everyone else would post, but to be honest, I have no idea who these artists are: David Archuleta, Beck, Cake, Akon, Taylor Swift, and the list goes on. So here is a snipit of my list: pretty much anything from the 70’s, ranging from Meatloaf to Al Greene to Little River Band. I also love, love, love Norah Jones. 4 Non Blondes “Bigger, Better, Faster, More” is a great CD. I also enjoy Neil Diamond, Nate King Cole, Kenny Rogers, and Louis Armstrong. I like just about anything except Rap and Heavy Metal, and not all, but quite a bit of the Hip Hop I could live without.

  13. Alyssa Skiba says:

Classic rock and 90’s grunge rock/alternative! Lately it’s been a lot of The Doors, Janis Joplin, Jimi Hendrix, The Beatles, Jefferson Airplane, Nirvana, Pearl Jam, Collective Soul, The Goo Goo Dolls, Aerosmith, Guns N Roses, Led Zeppelin, The Rolling Stones, Red Hot Chili Peppers, Smashing Pumpkins, and some good ol’ Bob Dylan.

  14. Elisabeth Callahan says:

Not a fan of country, religous music, and most every christmas song is laughable. (and you know it)
I do like…Cursive, Modest Mouse, Radiohead, Low Vs. Diamond, State Radio, Beatles, Red Hot Chili Perppers, Kings of Leon, Minus the Bear, and soo many more.
I Will listen to most everything at least once.

  15. Jacob Johnson says:

Lately I have watched the music video/listened to the song ‘jizzed in my pants’ by Lonely Island on youtube like a thousand times. Sounds bad, but it’s a harmless video that is/will be very popular among college students.

Other artists I listen to are Kanye West, Akon, TI, and Young Jeezy
