{"id":60,"date":"2017-02-14T23:38:22","date_gmt":"2017-02-14T23:38:22","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/blogs.uww.edu\/frugalfood\/?p=60"},"modified":"2017-02-14T23:44:19","modified_gmt":"2017-02-14T23:44:19","slug":"good-ole-chicken-noodle-soup","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blogs.uww.edu\/frugalfood\/2017\/02\/14\/good-ole-chicken-noodle-soup\/","title":{"rendered":"Chicken Noodle Soup"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Unfortunately, over the weekend I caught what is going around on campus. \u00a0It seems to be a pretty nasty cold: fatigue, cough, sore throat and LOTS of congestion. \u00a0I really tried to fight and nip it in the bud with Emergen-C and fluids, but here I am, miserable with three exams to look forward to. \u00a0And just like the cliche, I am finding comfort in some chicken noodle soup, specifically my mom&#8217;s. \u00a0But, I decided to tweek my mom&#8217;s recipe into a five dollar version and see what happens.<\/p>\n<p>This recipe is simple, fast and soothing, something any sick person can appreciate. \u00a0This recipe is also a bang for your buck because it makes a few servings. \u00a0With that being said: the freezer is your friend.<\/p>\n<p>Overall Cost: $4.85<\/p>\n<p>Ingredients:<\/p>\n<p>-1 can of chicken broth ($1.00)<\/p>\n<p>-1\/4 cup of carrot (.60 cents)<\/p>\n<p>-1\/4 cup of celery (.75 cents)<\/p>\n<p>-1\/2 cup of shredded chicken ($1.50)<\/p>\n<p>-1\/4 cup of uncooked egg noodles ($1.00)<\/p>\n<p>-Seasoning (opt.)<\/p>\n<p>Instructions:<\/p>\n<p>1. Cut celery and carrots in medium sized slices and shred chicken into reasonable portion<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/blogs.uww.edu\/frugalfood\/files\/2017\/02\/IMG_8140.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-medium wp-image-62\" src=\"http:\/\/blogs.uww.edu\/frugalfood\/files\/2017\/02\/IMG_8140-300x225.jpg\" alt=\"IMG_8140\" width=\"300\" height=\"225\" srcset=\"https:\/\/blogs.uww.edu\/frugalfood\/files\/2017\/02\/IMG_8140-300x225.jpg 300w, https:\/\/blogs.uww.edu\/frugalfood\/files\/2017\/02\/IMG_8140-1024x768.jpg 1024w, https:\/\/blogs.uww.edu\/frugalfood\/files\/2017\/02\/IMG_8140-400x300.jpg 400w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>2. Gradually stir chicken and egg noodles into the mixture<\/p>\n<p>4. Cook for 10 minutes while stirring occasionally<\/p>\n<p>5.
