The Mukwonago girls’ basketball team defeated the Knights from Oak Creek 58-48, in a Division 1 state semifinal at the Reach Center, on Friday March 9.
The ladies from Mukwonago had the ability to make the game count when it was needed. Oak Creek has been a top contender in sports for quite some time. They were not giving up, especially in the state semifinal game.
Mukwonago didn’t lead by more than five or six points until late in the second half. In the second half, Oak Creek saw the game slipping away from them. In the second half alone, Oak Creek had 20 fouls. Mukwonago only had 5. Fouls make a big difference, especially in the game of basketball.
The lead, however, barely grew because Mukwonago was struggling to put the ball in the basket. Oak Creek was trying to make a comeback, but it was not enough.
Mukwonago won the game by 10 points. They played Appleton North for the state championship on Saturday, March 10. It was Mukwonago’s second trip to the state finals in three seasons.
