October 22 – November 17

Opening Reception: Thursday, October 25 from 5-7 pm

Internationally recognized photographer Art Shay (1922-2018) will be featured in this show organized from his archives with the cooperation of Art Shay Archive Director Erica DeGlopper. Shay served in the US Air Force as a bombardier during World War II. Following the war he worked at Life magazine and then went on to a career as a freelance photographer. His photographs have been published in major magazines including Sports Illustrated, Life, Time and other national publications. His sports images include vivid photographs of the Green Bay Packers during the Vince Lombardi era, heavyweight boxing champion Mohammed Ali, baseball players Hank Aaron, Mickey Mantle and Roger Maris. Also notable are images of the Reverend Martin Luther King Jr., President John F. Kennedy, Robert Kennedy,  President Richard Nixon and actor Marlon Brando.

Shay was also interested in life on the streets and this passion produced many images showing the people going about their lives in everyday circumstances.

During the 1968 Democratic Convention in Chicago, Shay captured on film the street demonstrations and conflicts between protestors and police and National Guard forces.
