Eastern Illinois Lose in 2OT

The Austin Peay Governors upset the Panthers in a crushing overtime defeat despite giving the Panthers every opportunity to pull through with a win.
The Panthers were the better team, but not on this day. Even the Governors players knew that they were not supposed to be the ones to win this game, “Nobody thought we’d be here,” said Austin Peay’s April Thomas, who added in 13 points and 8 rebounds to help the upset take place. Turnovers and free throws told the story of how the game ended. Austin Peay shot 18 more free throws than the Panthers, making 11 more than the Panthers. The panthers may have had butter on their fingers or something because they turned the ball over 25 times, which is a lot considering they only made 26 shots in the game. Panther Coach Brady Sallee said that, “We ran into a hot basketball team that had a lot of confidence and they played like it tonight.” It’s kind of hard NOT to be a hot team when the other team gives you the ball 25 times in a single game. I had to do a double take at the play-by-play when I saw the word “TURNOVER” so many times. I figured that it was just a player for the Panthers getting a rebound or something, but no, it was just the sloppiness of the Panthers showing up on paper. Coach then went on to say, “If we take a little better care of the ball and there’s not an 18-free throw discrepancy, things might’ve been different.” Yeah, and if I won the lottery, I wouldn’t be eating McDonald’s for the third consecutive night in a row. There, now were all saying things that don’t matter.
