To be completely honest, this can be a hassle. Getting a large group of people to agree on the same drink is virtually impossible. Similarly, turkey is a tough food to pair with and finding the proper beverage is important. This post has both alcoholic and nonalcoholic options.

The following are some good options.

Wine Pairings

– Cabernet Franc, Chardonnay, a dry Riesling, Merlot, Pinot Noir or a fruity Zinfandel

Beer Pairings

– Amber ale or an Oktoberfest

Nonalcoholic Options

– Water, Iced Tea (sweet or unsweetened), Sparkling Water

My Thoughts

The above alcohol options are considered the proper pairings. Of those, I recommend the a good bottle of Chardonnay. I think that this is the best option to pair not just with the turkey but but all of the other dishes. Similarly, I am a big fan of sweet tea with anything. This is no exception for Thanksgiving dinner.

While the above are the formal pairings I recommend following 2 simple rules especially when getting wine for several people.

1. Pick something that the majority of the group will drink. Finding a middle ground can sometimes be difficult when people have drastically different tastes however, it can be done. This guarantees that it won’t go to waste.

2. Pick an option that is a middle of the road style and cost. This will have the best chance of your beverage being liked. Similarly, picking an average cost bottle of wine won’t break your bank and won’t make you look like a cheapskate.

At the end of the day, don’t worry about the formal pairings. Get something that you like, and that the rest of the group can agree on. This is always the best option.

I hope this was helpful.
