Learn how to create lecture slides and videos that are accessible to all of your students. The session will focus on several key areas, including layout, navigation, font style, color, alt text, descriptive text, multimedia, recording higher-quality video and audio, and university resources. Participants will interact with a live demonstration on how to use various tools to make their slides more accessible and understand how a variety of students perceive their slides. The workshop will end with an open lab, where participants can edit or adapt their slides with the help of CATLST experts. The hosts will also demonstrate how to use Kaltura captioning services to help instructors improve the quality of their videos and make them more accessible.
Session Outcomes
After completing this workshop, participants will be able to:
- Implement accessible design principles in slide presentations to enhance readability and comprehension for all students.
- Evaluate existing presentation slides using accessibility-checking tools and guidelines to identify potential barriers and areas for improvement in lecture slides.
- Implement accessibility best practices when producing video lectures to enhance comprehension for all students.
- Generate accurate closed captions using Kaltura captioning services and edit captions to ensure proper spelling, punctuation, and synchronization with video content.
Participants are encouraged to bring in their laptops or tablets.
