For this episode, I interviewed Jimmy Myer and Jacob Elmer, two elementary education
majors at UW Whitewater, about the growing concern over the shortage of male teachers in
Wisconsin. We discussed statewide statistics showing that men make up only a small
percentage of the teaching workforce, especially in early childhood and elementary classrooms.
Jimmy and Jacob explained why they believe this gender imbalance exists, pointing to stigma
from society, difficulties within the job, and perceptions about the profession. We also explored
whether these numbers could change in the future and what might encourage more men to
enter the field.
A look into the gender imbalance in the teaching field.
