Mixed Messages

For myself, it is easy to recall the colorful clay known as Play-Doh. I was never allowed to mix the colors and create amalgamations of -Doh. Instead, I stuck to one container at a time, molding different creations. Some of my favorites include sphere, box, and container shape.

I would often see Play-Doh ads on TV. I grew envious of the children who could mix their Play-Doh to create different assortments of figures. However, this is not about my tragic childhood, but rather, a certain catchphrase I always caught:

Fun to play with, not to eat!

Okay, simple enough. Play-Doh gives off a very putrid odor, which drove me to wash my hands after every use, but also encouraged me not to eat it. Not eating Play-Doh was easy for me. To be honest, I rather eat a two-by-two Lego brick.

However, Play-Doh began developing kits where one could create Play-Doh food. This is what stumps me. If you’re going to create your whole tagline on how you shouldn’t eat the toy, why put it in an environment that encourages consumption?

According to Poison Control, if a large amount of Play-Doh is swallowed, it may cause a mild upset stomach. A mild upset stomach. Imagine one of those juicy, doughy, tacos pictured above. What if a child ate thirty-seven of them? It is also worth mentioning that Play-Doh contains gluten.

Oftentimes, people like to dance around how they really feel. Typically, the fear is appearing rude. This is common amongst the SoundCloud community.

“Hey, did you check out my new song?”

“Of course! It was… great!”

This is truly devastating to the SoundCloud artist. They think they’re doing great- while in reality, they’re creating the next Uncle Aaron original. Instead, their dreams should be shut down immediately, and from there they can spend their time doing something else.

Just be honest! Tell them what you really think. For Play-Doh’s case, they shouldn’t create mouth-watering toys but instead opt to utilizing Play-Doh as, I don’t know, a pothole-filling kit. That’d be fun!
