Song of the Month: Miss Summer
Written on August 31, 2024
Oh, there she goes, Mrs. Summer– not sure if this is metaphorical (I don’t really pay too much attention to lyrics), but I think the opening line of this song sums up how I’m feeling right now. I’m going to be a senior in college this year, and I’m essentially done with my last summer break. It’s a bit of a sorrowful feeling, yet I’m excited for what’s to come: my final year of school, getting a long-term job- all that good stuff.
I found this one off of Spotify’s Discover Weekly playlist. I shuffled the playlist, heard this song, and was immediately enthralled in it’s guitar strums and smooth vocals. I was on a drive to work- it was one of my last days of my summer job. The song really hit me, kind of softened my soul a little.
I’d like to say that this summer I went off with a bang, but I’m not entirely sure that I did. Don’t get me wrong- I had a blast with a multitude of things- my summer job, concerts and music festivals, Chicago trips- but I’m left with this feeling of wanting more. Maybe I’m just ungrateful.
Yes, I’ll most likely not have another traditional summer break again, but that doesn’t mean I can’t still have fun. Just have to find that Work Life Balanceā¢. In the meantime, I’m gonna make sure this is my best school year yet.
