2022 Season Kick-Off!
Feb 16th, 2022 by Michael Zawicki
This past weekend the Major League Fishing (MLF) Bass Pro Tour (BPT) kicked off in Louisiana. During the six days of competition, anglers competed on three different lakes: Lake D’Arbonne, Caney Creek, and Bussey Brake. As the first 4 days of competition came to an end, Mark Daniels Jr. and Jared Linter were able to finish on top of their groups which automatically gave them a ticket to fish on the championship day. On the fifth day of the competition, 40 anglers competed for eight spots to make it into the championship round. After the day was over, Randy Howell came in with the biggest bass of the day weighing 10 pounds and 11 ounces! During the last day of the competition, Bradley Roy was able to seal up the win with a dominant day ending with 5 fish for 26 pounds and 2 ounces. During that day, Randy Howell was also able to break the Bussey lake record with a 12 pound 14-ounce fish!
Also, this past week, The Bassmaster Elite Series started its 17th season with a start on the St. Johns River in Florida. With the days leading up to the event, temperatures plummeted, and didn’t seem that those temperatures were going to increase at all during the event. Anglers were worried about this because they figured that there were going to be no fish up shallow and spawning. Instead, most fish were caught offshore on shoals and weed beds. Even with the cold temperatures, these anglers are still the best in the world and anytime they go to Florida they are guaranteed to catch giant bass. John Crews was able to take home the first blue trophy of the year with a 4-day total of 75 pounds and 4 ounces. Multiple anglers brought in 25–30-pound bags throughout the event which shows that even with cold temperatures, the big Florida strain bass still show up!
Within the next week, both platforms will start their second tournament of the year, MLF will be on Lake Fork in Texas and the Bassmaster’s will be on Harris Chain of Lakes in Florida.
Holy cow, i wonder how many pounds they’ll get next week!
Hi Michael,
It has been a long time since I have been fishing, but I still found your blog post super interesting. The couple of times I have been fishing, I was able to get fish, but nothing as big as a bass. I think it’s really cool that they have competitions for fishing, since I have met many people who were very passionate about fishing. I hope to maybe get back into fishing in the future.
Awesome! Maybe these blog posts can get you back into it!
