The weather is finally warming up, which means two things: the (merciful) end of the school year, and festival season!

As you all know, I’m the station’s resident Chicagoan, and there’s nothing more during the summertime when I come home than good music, good vibes, and of course beachside fun to cool down. Enter, Mamby on the Beach!

The Windy City’s only summer beach music festival on Lake Michigan is entering their installment located at Oakwood Beach. And if Summer ’18 in Chicago getting set to pack a serious punch in the music world with big-name stars on tour (Taylor Swift, Kendrick Lamar, Imagine Dragons to name a few) and festivals galore (Country LakeShake, Spring Awakening, Lollapalooza, etc.), Mamby is gearing up to be an absolute haymaker.

With music festivals being on the top of the list of many college students, including many of us here at The Edge, here are some reasons why we’re personally excited about Mamby on the Beach:

  • The Lineup: Okay, so we obviously have to…and I mean have to…discuss this year’s lineup. There’s literally someone for everyone, and some of these artists you can hear on The Edge! Do you love the alternative rock music that we pride ourselves on? Bands such as Cold War Kids, Spoon, AJR and more are slated to perform. Do you bump Hip-Hop Hump Day every Wednesday? Russ, Roy Wood$, and one of rap’s all-time names Common will be hitting the stage as well. Then you take into account DJ’s such as Dixon, Nora En Pure, and Duke Dumont (a personal favorite of mine) throwing it down in separate tents and you have yourself a lineup that will surely make up anyone’s soundtrack of the summer.

  • The Activities: Beach Volleyball and Water Balloon fights are two things that are essential for anyone going to the beach, so why not enjoy them while there’s music happening on the festival grounds as well? There will also be several Yoga Sessions for those who want to unwind and keep loose throughout the two-day festival. Not only will Mamby have those, but there will also be Henna Tattoo stations, Braid Bars and tarot readings! And to cap it all off, there will be several wellness workshops that focus on anywhere from mental health tips to healthy eating advice.

  • The Beach: I mean, let’s be serious…do we really need to explain this one? Great music, great vibes, and all of this along Lake Michigan with a great view of the Chicago skyline? Sign us up ASAP.

With many of us looking festivals like Summerfest in Milwaukee or travel down to Chicago for some of the festivals mentioned above, I believe it’s safe to say that Mamby on the Beach should find its way on any and all music lover’s summer plans.
