Serena ends development for Collage

Hello,
I wanted to let everyone know that Serena the company that owns our Collage CMS product has decided to stop development on the product. This means that there will be no new versions or enhancements to the product. While we still have support into the foreseeable future, we (the Web Team) believe that this is an opportunity to look at alternative solutions.

So what does this mean for you?

At this point nothing will change; we will continue to use Collage while we evaluate our future direction. In the upcoming months we will be calling on you to aid us in requirements gathering and product evaluation.
As I can only assume many of you will have questions; please post them below and I will respond to them the best I can.

Joel

    I was wondering if there was a way to do a direct upload to the server from Collage, even though there are the scheduled uploads at approximately 8 and 3. Would this be possible with an FTP program, if it is not possible from Collage?

    If this is not a feature in Collage/ not possible, could this be an option available in a new content management system? It would be a valuable tool for greater timeliness in posting jobs.

    Thanks!

    @mike
    The idea behind content management is to remove the editor like yourself from physically touching the live web server. Which is why we don’t give anyone access to directories deployed by Collage. So the answer to your first question is no, we don’t allow it for a number of reasons, of which i won’t get into here. The hope with our next CMS is to get rid of the deploy time aspect of Collage. where we make changes and then at a certain time to makes the changes on the live site. What we are looking for next is a system that makes the change live right after you approve it.

    Making the change live right after approval would be greatly useful and what we are hoping for. Thanks, Joel!

  4. Joel Herron – would you please email me at webmaster@doh.state.fl.us – I would love to know what your next CMS might be. The Fl. Dept of Health is also a Serena Collage user and facing its demise.

    Many thanks!
