Kudos on a Successful Tech Surplus Sale

After moving an ton of equipment to the CEC, the Tech Surplus Sale this spring was a huge success!

ICIT appreciates all the work from:

  • Workstation/UET team, particularly Jacob, Anthony, and student employees.
  • Aaron and LTC students for help before and during the sale, but most especially for the great promo videos for social media.
  • Katie for help during the sale and likely lots of things that went unnoticed but are appreciated.
  • FP&M for providing moving assistance and the use of their truck.

Thank you, Nick Ciesinski!

Many of us in ICIT have never known this organization without Nick Ciesinski, whose last on-campus day is June 26. Although he’s accepted an exciting new opportunity with Cisco, he will continue with ICIT until August 25. We all wish him success in his new role but will miss his institutional knowledge; extensive memory of projects, people, problems, and solutions; and most of all, dedication to UWW.

Over the last (almost) 20 years, Nick has worked to design and manage a reliable, secure, and intelligent technology environment in order to provide a high-quality experience. Nick has introduced countless technology solutions to serve students, faculty and staff, frequently positioning UW-Whitewater at the front of technological innovation.

As a graduate of UWW’s Management Computer Systems and Accounting programs, Nick’s first project right out of college was to deploy a wireless network here. Years later, he facilitated the merging of UW-Rock Campus into the Whitewater network infrastructure, which included replacing UW-Rock wired and wireless networks among other improvements. At the start of the pandemic, Nick was instrumental in enabling hybrid teaching, learning, and work modalities on both campuses.

2018 Tech Open House

He fostered a long-standing relationship with Cisco, helping us to establish and later expand Webex capabilities to effectively provide voice, messaging, and virtual meetings/events. His keen ability to work with our technology partners has saved considerable amounts of money, allowing more funding to be allocated to teaching and learning initiatives.

This is a short list of Nick’s considerable accomplishments benefiting us all. In fact, he’s been recognized for his work at the campus- and System-level. In 2013, Nick received UWW’s University Staff Excellence Award. In 2022, he was a nominee for the Regents University Staff Excellence Awards.

ICIT thanks Nick for his dedication and hard work, which is greatly appreciated. We look forward to formally saying farewell and celebrating his new adventure in August (watch for details). Cisco Cybersecurity will be lucky to have you!

Welcome, Jason Harr!

On behalf of ICIT, we’d like to welcome Jason Harr as he takes on the role of Full Stack Web Developer. His duties will include system analysis, design, and programming tasks as well as consulting with, assisting, and instructing users on Information System applications and tools.

Jason says he’s excited for the opportunity to assist in improving student, prospective student, faculty, staff, and visitor experiences with our website.

Jason enjoys playing the guitar, loves Star Wars and shares his life with his wife and 8 year-old son.

We’re happy to have Jason join the team, please take time to welcome him!

Thank you, Sean Lehr!

Sean Lehr’s final day with ICIT will be Friday, March 17. We all wish him well as he moves to a new opportunity in FP&M.

Since joining ICIT in 2018, Sean, AVCT Integration & Support Technician, has provided excellent support and expertise to instructional facilities on both campuses.

Sean played a vital part in transforming UWW classrooms from analog to digital, working on the planning and execution of dozens of projects across campus. He assisted in updating old programs to model the new touch panel functionality of systems. He played a role in shifting from lamp projectors to new DM laser projectors across campus. Along with Nick Brasch, Sean has provided critical support at the UWW Rock campus. Anyone who has worked with Sean knows he possesses considerable skills, knowledge, and a quick response time!

From Sean: “I will miss working directly with ICIT and its employees.”

In addition to his professional contributions, Sean generously shared his musical talents after our Divisional Meetings, which we greatly appreciated!

Thank you, James Wong!

James Wong joined ICIT in November of 2022 as a Manager of Administrative Information Systems, as ICIT was trying to understand the scope of the ATP initiative and its impact on many campus operations.

James was instrumental in helping us gather a lot of important information and gain a better understanding of the ATP requirements, specifically as it pertains to posting tuition revenue from WINS. James also played a significant role in addressing WINS performance during advanced registration, particularly working with Oracle in resolving the Elastic Search issues. Members of the UWW community outside of ICIT reflected that James is “eager to help and resolve end user issues,” “focused,” and “very polite, always thankful and cordial in emails.”

“I would like to express my sincere thanks for the opportunities and support provided during my time at UW Whitewater. It has been a pleasure working with everyone, and I wish the team continued success in all future endeavors.”

James’s last day at UWW will be Friday, March 17. We wish him all the best as he moves on to a new opportunity and thank him for his contributions to our campus as a Warhawk (again)!
