Spring Break is coming up right! Chilling with friends, nights on the beach, and perfect bodies all around. We all want it. That spring break perfect hair, perfect face, perfect body, and perfect tan. Here’s a reality check, nobody is perfect. Unfortunately, people go the extra mile to make themselves as close to perfect as possible. I remember hearing once that beauty is pain, but does it really have to be? So let’s talk about the new crazes that have been popular around the internet.

First was the homemade Elmer’s glue and charcoal mask. People would mix together Elmer’s non-toxic glue and a scoop of activated charcoal to create a creamy mix that they would put on their face. Everything sounds normal, for the most part. Sike! Aside for activated charcoal, nothing is normal here! This facemask hurts when being peeled off because you are literally ripping all of the hairs off of your face. It’s a huge face wax…ouch! The YouTube videos streaming around were hilarious to watch because people were literally crying when they took the masks off. I tried the mask myself and it was not a normal experience. It didn’t hurt as much as I thought it would but it did make my face sting, red, and burn. My recommendation, don’t do it to yourself. Your skin naturally pushes dirt out and you will never be able to get rid of blackheads. Blackheads are okay, everyone has them.

Beach bodies are the thing for spring break but is it worth hurting yourself? It’s only a week of fun with people who probably don’t care about you after break is over. Regardless, people go on diets. Extreme diets. One that I was just introduced to was tongue patch. A patch is stitched to the top of the tongue that makes eating painful in order to create pain so that people stop eating solid foods. Not surprisingly, it works. You lose a ton of weight quick. Just imagine paying a lot of money for a device that causes pain for doing something as natural as eating. My recommendation, dump the patch and focus on portion size and exercise.

So to all my fellow college people, don’t stress out about meeting society’s standard. Enjoy the most natural form of you and live it up because looks fade and in 10 years none of this will matter. Beauty is not pain. BEAUTY. IS. YOU.
