Performance Enhancing Drugs

There have been problems with performance enhancing drugs (known as PED) in the tennis world for many years. Many players have been caught using drugs over the decade whether it was for personal stimulant or even just recreational purposes. I personally think the tennis industry is too lenient on players using drugs. In the article attached there were examples of players being caught for using drugs and easily getting their suspension removed. One male player had taken a stimulant and claimed it had been in a form of a glucose tablet while another male was tested positive for cocaine and argued it came from kissing some random lady. I personally think their suspension shouldn’t have been lifted because these players should’ve been more careful.

There have been research done by experts that the testing methods tennis has used are actually ineffective and unreliable because there is very little money going into the testing for drugs. The drugs that give the players the upper hand and better performance are getting low effort put into the testing. This low testing can be compared to lower profile sports like handball and canoeing testing. This testing barely does anything since these sports aren’t has profitable.

A famous tennis player that was caught taking a drug called meldonium which is used to improve exercise capacity in athletes was Sharapova. I will talk more about her in my next post.
