On Monday March 4th the Whitewater Student Government had our weekly Senate Meeting, WSG was happy to announce the implementation of the Student Savings Club on campus! The Student Savings club is available to any UW-Whitewater student, all that is needed is the presentation of your HawkCard at a number of local businesses, while some businesses give discount to students with the presentation of a HawkCard, some deals require a printed off coupon. The website to find these deals can be found here, this site lists the 30+ local businesses that offer discounts to UW-W students as well as provides the aforementioned coupons.

With the Senate Election starting in two short hours, those that will appear on the online ballot were asked a number of questions asking about themselves; the questions are listed below, followed by their responses:
1. What is your current work load (credits, major/minor, job(s), other student organizations you are involved in)?
2. If you could describe yourself in one word, what would it be and why?

Michael Rajsich
1. My current workload for this semester and the upcoming semester is 17 credits. I currently work as an Economics tutor in the academic center and I also work at Cowley’s Piggly Wiggly in Milton. The organizations that I am involved in are Whitewater Investment Group, College Republicans, Economics Society, and Cycling Club. My intended major is Business and Marketing Education Comprehensive.
2. If I could describe myself in one word, it would have to be friendly. I am always talking and interacting with other students, as well as customers at my grocery store. I love meeting new people and learning about other student’s life experiences.
3. My favorite thing about the UW-Whitewater has to be the opportunities that are provided here. You will not find a better campus for sports, academics, and student organizations. It truly is a great campus that I would recommend anyone too.
Tommy Ziolkowski
1. This fall semester I am taking 17 credits to fulfill requirements to become an Accounting and Finance double major. I want to double major to set myself apart from all the other accounting majors here at UW-Whitewater and other schools across the nation. I work at the weight room in the William Center, so if you come in to workout, be sure to say hi. As far as student organizations goes, I am the Vice Chair on SUFAC, a general member on Econ Society, and serve on multiple committees for WSG.
2. Determination: I have always been an independent person who creates a goal and makes sure I reach the goal by working hard. The key to my success is my determination. Once my goal is in place, I work until the goal is reached; I never give up. If I create a goal that is impossible to succeed, I will set other goals as a compromise, and then complete the new goals. I will use this tool to make a difference in our college community at UW-Whitewater if elected as an Off Campus Senator.
3. Coming in as a freshman last year I had a lot to complain about on our campus and in the community. As I started to get involved in organizations I saw how easily I could make a difference and build my leadership skills through fun and serious activities. I love that UW-Whitewater has an organization for every interest. If this is not the case, creating and building an organization is possible and easy. The organizations on campus are an at large community that is making a difference not only at the individual level, but the national level as well.
Johanna Klay
1. I currently have 16 credits. My major is Political Science. My minor is Marketing. I am on the Forensics Team, a new member of Alpha Sigma Sorority, I am a Warhawk Voting Ambassador and I am in College Republicans.
2. Ambitious, because I am always driven to become a more well-rounded individual–both academically and socially.
3. I love how active the student body is and the positive transition I have had since transferring this fall.
Taylor McDarison
1. I am currently tackling 16.5 credits. I am a bachelor of Fine Arts (BFA) with a studio art emphasis. I am also trying for a spanish and math minor, but both of these minors are currently undeclared. I am the secretary on the E-Board of Honors Student Assosiation (HSA) and a member of Student Art Assosiation (SAA). I am working part time at the Duck Inn on weekends as a busser/hostess.
2. Ethical, because I have a great work ethic as well as a good understanding of morales and principles that I’m not afraid to defend regardless of how many people are against me.
3. The small, family feel that the campus has, It’s dedication to the landscape around us, and its support in our art program. And who can forget the squirrels?
Alex Zamecnik
1. I’m currently a Freshman taking 17 credits. I’m pursuing a degree in Political Science with a double minor in Public Relations and Journalism. Besides being avidly involved in Whitewater Student Government, I participate in College Republicans and write for a website dedicated to stopping generational theft.
2. If I had to describe myself in one word it would be ambitious. Ambition is showing a strong desire and determination to succeed. Every goal I wish to achieve, no matter how big or small, I never give up.
3. Whitewater being a smaller campus, has given me the ability to take my learning outside of the classroom and become involved with organizations. Whitewater not only has helped me build relationships, but also helped me discover some of the things I’m passionate about!
Dylan Waldhuetter
1. I am an integrated science/business major with a water emphasis taking 15 credits. I am also a member of the Whitewater Water Council, associate member of Pi Kappa Alpha fraternity, and sit on the Dean’s Advisory Council.
2. Ambituous, I aspire to do big things in my life and am currently taking the necessary steps to achieve them.
3. I love the tight knit community and the accessibility of numerous campus involvement opportunities.
Lauren Kats
1. I am a Biology and Pre-Dental Major with a Minor in Chemistry. I am taking 17 credits and am also involved in my residence hall LIT (Leadership Involvement Team)
2. In one word I would describe myself as efficient because I hate wasting time. I like to get things done in the most effective manner that I can.
3. My favorite thing about Whitewater is the people and opportunities that are available. There is something for everyone and it is a great place to further yourself and get experiences to help you in your future pursuits.
Michael Heck
1. I am taking 15 credits this semester and I am majoring in General business because I am not sure what I want to do yet. I don’t have a job during the school year but I don’t have a job for the summer back in my hometown. I am also involved in the Leadership Involvement Team for my dorm. I am on the executive board for LIT and I am also an RHA rep. I am also involved with the College Republican chapter on our campus.
2. I would describe myself as reliable because I always keep my promise and when I committ myself to something I will give 110% to see that the job gets done. I know how important my promise is to the team and I never want to let the team down. No matter what the work load I strive to be the person the entire group can lean on to come through even when the group is facing adversity.
3. My favorite thing about UW-Whitewater is just how tight the campus is and how friendly the people are. Everyone is very approachable including the professors making it easy to interact with anyone here at UW-Whitewater. Also, I love how you can recognize familiar faces when you walk to class making you feel right at home.
Nicholas Nahnsen
1. My current work load is 13 credits, I am double majoring and double minoring…my major’s are business entrepreneurship and political science and my minor’s are music and leadership. I was just hired on as a building manager for the University Center. I am currently the At-Large Senator for Whitewater Student Government, and I am in Alpha Sigma Phi
2. “Social”….I feel that I relate well with people. I always have there best interests in mind. I feel that characteristic is one of the more important one’s along with “professionalism”. A good politician knows the fine line between work and play, he/she can have fun while getting things done. Which is what we are suppose to be doing here at Whitewater isn’t it? We are here to attain an education while making memories and friends we will have for the rest of our life.
3. My most favorite thing about UW-Whitewater is the atmosphere. It has the right climate…literally. No I am not talking about the weather even though that is pretty good to. I am talking about the ability to learn and the tools that are ready for use here on campus and in the city too. We put out so much of a good product in the form of leader’s, educators, and business, and I haven’t even talked about sports. We have some how managed to become leaders both on and off the field. I believe that is due to our hard work and good work ethic instilled by the faculty here at UW-Whitewater.
Lucas Tomachek
1. I am taking 16 credits, with a major in finance and a minor in strategic planning. I am in the Pi Kappa Alpha fraternity and am active on the Whitewater Paintball team.
2. If I had to describe myself in one word it would be “relentless.” The reason I would use this word is because I am motivated in every aspect of my life, am a hard worker, and look every obstacle head on and don’t stop till it is conquered.
3. My favorite thing about UW-Whitewater is the size of the student body and of the campus in general. The smaller class sizes allow for one on one communication between students and teachers which truly does help to succeed in the classrooms.
Jamie Selck
1. I am a senior management major taking 15.5 credits. I will be taking 16.5 credits next semester. I am currently the Whitewater Student Government Clerk. I also work in the Provost’s office. I am actively involved in Delta Zeta Sorority. I am also the treasurer for the Panhellenic Council.
2. Efficient. I am always trying to figure out the easiest, fastest, and best ways to do things.
3. My favorite thing about UW-Whitewater is the stations that fill water bottles with filtered water.
Jeremy Peterson
1. I am taking 14 credits and I am an Economics Major. I currently work for the Fiscal and Economic Research Center on Campus. I am also a member of Lambda Chi Alpha.
2. If I could describe myself in one word it would be trustworthy. I personally believe that trust is the most important part of having a functional relationship. Trust is hard earned and easily broken. This is why I remain trustworthy to others.
3. My favorite thing about UW-Whitewater is the vast variety of culture around campus. I’ve met friends from all around the world that are kind enough to share their experiences with me.

In tonight’s meeting, taking place on Monday, October 08, the Whitewater Student Government was visited by Brent Bilodeau who is the Assistant Vice Chancellor of Student affairs here on campus, Dr. Bilodeau started his speaking turn out as normal, by getting the Senate involved, we were asked why we are sitting in our seats tonight, why we’re in WSG, and what we want to get out of our time in our roles as members of The Whitewater Student Government. After reflecting on what we want out of this experience, we were asked to share our findings with the rest of the body. A majority of the members of the Senate and Executive Board stated that we’re here to become better leaders and to take a number of things from this experience including, but not limited to communication skills, making a difference, learning new skills, as well as having a fingerprint on such a great campus. Dr. Bilodeau concluded with asking WSG to learn from our time on Senate, and to take advantage of the opportunity that we have being a member of WSG.
Building off of that thought, we as Whitewater Student Government had the chance to reflect for a few moments during our meeting and think about what WSG is to us, and what we want from our time here on the body, WSG was wondering what you guys as students want to take away from your time as a UW-Whitewater student and how we can help you out with those goals and how we can help you get the most out of your time here as a Warhawk.
Ms. Anne Weberphal came to the Senate to speak on behalf of the Veterans and Service Members Recognition Committee and spoke on the Pentagon Pentathlon: this activity takes place in the Warhawk Alley and is a week-long tournament of five events including bowling, pool, beanbags, laddergolf, and trivia. Teams may consist of 5-8 members and the cost is $25 per team. All proceeds will benefit the Wounded Warriors Project. Registrations are available in the Warhawk Alley and in the Veterans Lounge in the Andersen Library.
Two pieces of legislation were brought to the table in tonight’s meeting as well, The Student Representation Efficiency Act which merges the Esker and Drumlin Districts on campus to allow for Senators living on campus to act as Senators for the entire campus district not separated into Esker or Drumlin Districts, making for ease of filling open senate seats. And the Executive Professionalism Re-Titling, this legislation calls for the Executive Board to be changed to the Executive Cabinet, as stated in the legislation, “The current administration has put high priority on enhancing the professional atmosphere and experience of whitewater Student Government to better serve the Students and individuals of the Executive Board…and the term ‘Executive Board’ does not reflect the true nature of their duties or responsibilities.” This legislation was brought to the table to change the name of the Executive Board to the Executive Cabinet, as stated before, renaming the group of individuals Cabinet instead of Executive Board better serves the group and better explains their duties and what they really are.

Whitewater Student Government no longer develops an Off-Campus Housing Guide per S11-12:09 passed by the WSG Senate 11/28/2012 and signed by President Patrick Johnson the same week.

With the unanimous passage of S11-12:14 and the signature of the President. The University Services Director position is no more. It has been replaced by the Business and Financial Services Director.
A brief summary of what this new position entails:
-It incorporates many of the same duties of the former University Services Director
-Keeps an up-to-date expense report of the WSG budget
-Coordinates the Housing/Business Fair
-Serve on the WSG Budget Committee
-Coordinates and Maintains the Student Chamber of Commerce (Which is currently being organized)
Mr. Justin Murphy will serve as the first Business and Financial Services Director. The legislation takes effect July 1st, 2012 along with President Jensen’s term in office.
