Jens Lekman
Do you ever discover a band that if off the radar and instantly fall in love with them secretly hoping they never make it big so you won’t have to share them with anyone? Well one of mine is Jens Lekman. Now I know that I play him a lot on the show, but I don’t want to have to deal with him making it big because that means that he will start making cookie cutter pop music and I will have to deal with sold out concert tours. Granted this is selfish.
Jens is originally from Sweden, but is now located in Australia. His music is generally guitar based with the use of strings, drums, and bass guitar; the lyrics are melodic, witty, and normally have to do with romance. He released his first album in 2004 (When I Said I Wanted To Be Your Dog) and has only released two others since then. His albums are just a collection of songs, by this I mean the songs don’t have a theme running through them and they were recorded at different times.
Jens has been kept under the radar for sometime now. He has quietly released albums. However, now he is becoming more well known. His music videos are being played on MTV and his songs are blaring through the speakers at Old Navy. I know, as a fan, I should be happy for him, but I’m not sure if I’m ready to stand in line for sold out concerts just yet.
