****BAKE SALE!!!!! Next week Thursday, October 29, 2009 from 10:00 am- 4:00 pm. The table will be located in front of the Ike Schaffer Commons of the University Center.

Our Study Night will be held on Monday, October 26th from 6-9 pm in McCuthan Hall’s basement tutorial center.

There will be NO MEETING on Wednesday, October 28th. In place of Wednesdays meeting, The Sociology Department is hosting Career Night @ 4:30 pm (speakers will begin at 5:15) @ The Fern Young Terrace located in the Center of the Arts. ***FREE PIZZA will be provided!!

We are planning a Movie Night sometime in November, (date TBA). We are planning to see the “2012″ that comes out in theaters on November 13th, so please look out for upcoming announcements.

-We discussed the “Invisible Children” event possibly for next semester.

-Study Night for next week, October 26th, from 6-9 will be confirmed at tomorrow’s meeting.

-We will be taking a photo shoot with Chancellor Telfer for Tom’s Shoes. (He has agreed to buy two pairs of shoes for our event).

FYI and REMINDER……. the Bake Sale scheduled for tomorrow has been cancelled. We will discuss a net set date and time in tomorrow’s meeting also.

The following video describes a new was of helping individuals and groups in the third world.  It describes a practice called micro-lending and specifically a company named Kiva (go to www.kiva.org).  Check out the video and website.  I think it’s pretty cool.

On October 12th, the PEACE organization is hosting “Invisible Children” at 7:00 pm in the UC-Hamilton Center. For those who can make it, please join us in supporting this event.

Our first fundraiser is underway. We will host our Bake Sale on October 21st in the UC from 9am-4pm. Table reservations are currently being taking care of. We are in need of volunteers throughout the day to rotate for an hour or so, or whenever available between classes, so please let myself know if you are interested and what time(s).

Please take time to view the meeting location schedule under the blogroll.  Most of the time we’ll be meeting in 259A, but there are a couple of times (11/11 & 18) that we’ll be at a different location.

During Wednesday’s meeting (10/7/09) SASA will be holding a poster design workshop for our upcoming event, “Tom’s Shoes”. Please feel free to bring any markers, colored pencils, poster boards or any supplies that you may have that you think are necessary to create posters for the event!

We have agreed and decided that SASA will hold membership dues per semester. The cost will be $5 per semester, and $10 for the entire academic school year.

I (Brittany Owens) will be setting up a yahoo email account since the UW-W email account no longer exists. I will also be creating an Facebook account for members and for the entire campus to view and find out what we are all about!

Possible Events:

• Oct.12th: the PEACE organization was host “Invisible Children” (Time and location TBA)
• Tom’s Shoes seems to be underway. We are working on getting a representative to come to campus and do a presentation on the idea of Tom’s Shoes. Liz, Sarah and Adam are in charge of talking with Chancellor Telfer about organizating Tom’s Shoes soon! At next’s week meeting, we will discuss and come up with an exact date to host Tom’s Shoes.
• The Chicago and Milwaukee museums trips are TBA.
• Study Nights with those individuals with Sociology, Anthropolgy or Criminal Justice, majors/minors, and/or related classes is also TBA.

The organization PEACE meets tonight @ 5 p.m. in UC 262.  This org has alot of similar interests, including the Invisible Children event on October 12.  Try and  attend and represent SASA if possible so we can help out with the Oct 12 event.
