Graduation Honors

September 26th, 2008 by housnerb

Graduating with honors – here is how UW-Whitewater determines honors.

Graduating seniors who have demonstrated scholastic achievement as defined below by the cumulative UW-W GPA only (excluding transfer grades) may receive one of the following three categories of graduation honors:

Summa Cum Laude           3.85 and above

Magna Cum Laude                         3.60 to 3.84

Cum Laude                           3.40 to 3.59

For honors to be acknowledged in the commencement program, students must attain the minimum required UW-W cumulative grade point average before entering their final term and have earned 48 units (counting the final term of enrollment) at UW-Whitewater. Honors maintained and/or earned through the final grading period will be noted on the academic record and on the diploma. It is the student’s responsibility to ensure that the 48-unit minimum and the GPA requirements are satisfied.

The University Bookstore will have a list of all students who qualify for honors at Salute to Grads.  The honor cords are an additional fee.

If you have questions about Honors, please contact Barb Housner, University Graduation Examiner, Registrar’s Office, Roseman Building, 262 472 5179 or e mail housnerb@uww.edu

Graduation honors is not related to Honors classes or being in the Honors Program.

Are you graduating in December?

September 12th, 2008 by housnerb

Have you applied for December 2008 graduation?

If you are planning to graduate in December 2008, I hope you have already applied.  If you haven’t applied yet – you should do so immediately.  Students can fill out their application for graduation in the Registrar’s Office, Roseman 2032.

If you are taking a class during Winterim to complete your requirements, you should put Winterim on your application for graduation.  We need to make sure you have a Winterim term for registering.

Many offices are already getting ready to send out information about commencement or activities relating to commencement.  If you have not applied, you will not receive this important information.  The information for the commencement program will soon be assembled – if you haven’t applied – your name will not be in the program.  Your friends and family will be very disappointed to not see your name in the program.

Students wishing to graduate in May or August 2009 can apply now.  Application for May graduation should be done before priority registration for the spring semester ends.  This guarantees that your records will be evaluated in a timely manner.
