About The PWP Mentor

Cassie

Hi there!

Welcome Professional Writing students! Cassie (that’s me!) is here to help you with your writing, grammar, and editing courses so that you can succeed in your chosen field. Some of the classes I can help you with are:

  • English 230: Foundations of Professional Writing and Editing
  • English 272: Critical Writing in Multimedia Contexts
  • English 330: Manuscript Editing
  • English 332: Writing For The Web
  • English 362: Grammar of Standard Written English
  • English 364: Style: Principles and Practices
  • English 366: Topics in Professional Writing: Fiction Editing
  • Film 356: Text & Image

I’m available for both one-on-one tutoring and study groups. To accommodate different preferences and concerns, I’ll be offering a mix of in-person and online hours this semester.

As for me, I’m a fifth-year super senior who’s triple majoring in PWP, Media Arts & Game Design, and Film Studies. I’m the president of the PWP Core student org for the ’21 – ’22 academic year. I use she/her pronouns. I’m not sure what I do in my free time since I never seem to have any. I’m definitely not prone to sarcasm.

I’ve served as a PWP mentor for two years now, and I’m really glad to have the chance to do it again for this one last semester before I graduate. I look forward to getting to know anyone who stops by!

My current schedule (Spring 2022)

M:   2:30pm – 5:00pm (Laurentide)   &   6:30pm – 8:00pm (Online)

T:    3:30pm – 5:00pm (Laurentide)   &   8:30pm – 10:00pm (Online)

W:   10:00am – 12:00pm (Laurentide)   &   8:00pm – 9:00pm (Online)

R:   9:45am – 10:45am (Laurentide)

F:   By appointment only

Atypical hours and locations

Faculty meetings, scheduled events, and even people occupying my usual spot can all force me to move elsewhere in the lounge or even to another floor of Laurentide entirely. In these cases, I’ll post a brief message on the blog. I highly recommend bookmarking this blog and checking for any new posts immediately before you set out to meet me.

In-person hours are subject to being moved online if mandated by University COVID-19 policy or if I ever need to quarantine. If something like this happens, I’ll update this page and announce the change with a blog post.

If you planned to meet with me during scheduled hours that I have to cancel outright, I’ll prioritize finding another time to meet with you as soon as possible.

Meeting with me in Laurentide

During the hours marked “(Laurentide)” in the above schedule, I’ll be located in the third-floor lounge in Laurentide Hall and will be helping individuals or groups who come to see me in-person.

The lounge is located outside of the Department of Languages and Literatures and can be identified by its large windows and substantial collection of tables and comfy furniture. If you can see the Copy Room (Laurentide 3011) from where you are, you’re in the right place. I usually sit against the side wall in front of a large visual art piece and have my orange Grammar textbook on clear display. I’ll be masked regardless of University policy, and I’ve also received three doses of COVID-19 vaccine.

Meeting with me online

During the hours marked “(Online)” in the above schedule, I’ll be located in a private area at my computer and will be helping individuals or groups via video or voice chat. You can do this one of two ways.

Online Option #1: Webex Meetings

All UWW personnel have access to an account on Cisco Webex Meetings (download it here). It’s available for both computers and mobile devices.

To meet with me on Webex Meetings, please enter my personal room via this link. This should send me a push notification. This system has occasionally failed in the past, so if I don’t admit you to the room within 5 minutes, please email me at OchowskiAM19@uww.edu.

Online Option #2: Discord

Discord is a free app that offers video and voice chat (download it here). It’s available for both computers and mobile devices.

To meet with me on Discord, please join the Professional Writing Core’s server (it’s one-click and you don’t need to be a member of the org to enter the server). You should see a voice chat named “Peer Mentor Meetings.” If I’m not already in this chat when you join, type “@Cassidy Ochowski” in the text channel named “#questions-and-answers” to notify me.

Other options

If my hours don’t work for you, I’d still love to help you out! You can email me questions any time at OchowskiAM19@uww.edu. I’ll get back to you as soon as I can!

You’re also welcome to try and set up a time for an alternate meeting with me. I’ll do my best to accommodate as many of these requests as possible.
