april 7 is special day for me. it marks the day that i last left spain, which was april 7, 2005, to be exact. i can’t believe that two years have passed since my last visit. it also means that i finished studying abroad almost three years ago. time sure does fly.

i went to barcelona for the spring break of my first year of grad school. since i was so crazy about school and work as an undergrad, i never indulged in the drunkeness of spring break. but, as a grad student, i took full advantage of only have class on friday and a flexible work schedule to jet off to europe. i managed to spend two and a half weeks in barcelona, hanging out with my BCN books friends and my host family. i even got to see toni and rayk for a few days too. it was a great intermission from the reality of living back in the states.

but alas, i still pine for you, BCN.

sports always provide an excellent excuse to pack up and drive somewhere. that’s why i love working at UW-W - the sports teams have already given me two reasons to travel in the short eight months that i have been here.

the latest: wheelchair basketball
having the privilege and misfortunate of attending a large, division I university for undergrad, i didn’t become very involved with the athletics programs. while i was in school, i had heard about the wheelchair basketball team but never made it out to watch a game.

i’ve finally given into making a blog. i didn’t want to create a blog that was all of me and my personal life, because that’s no good - you never know who reads these things. friends of mine that have blogs have more of a purpose - like my friend’s fabulous horror movie blog.

so what could i do that might resemble originality?

well, that’s when it hit me. i love to travel - more specifically, taking road trips. so this blog is going to describe my adventures with lil’ red (my car) and friends as i take on the united states. since i can’t afford to constantly drive around the country, i will also delve into my travels abroad while studying in spain, as i need an outlet to reminisce.

one of the things that struck me often was that i know europe better than i know my home country. i think that’s due to the ridiculous costs of flying in the US and my lack of proper transportation alternatives. now that i have a trusty vehicle, anything’s possible.
