Meeting Room

Is your room the meeting room for your roommates or your friends? That can be both a blessings and a curse. It’s really cool that you have friends that want to spend time with you and that people think you have a cool space, but it can also be hard to make your space fit that. There are some issues with having your space being the meeting room. They include… Having Enough Room That can be hard. There sometimes isn’t enough room for everyone to sit or stand comfortably in one space, especially if that space is in a college house or apartment. So, it’s important to at least try to fix or remedy the problem. Even if it’s just for the time of everyone being present in the room. Have chairs or a couch in the room. That helps a lot because it makes everyone comfortable and it is very inviting. Make sure it fits in your designs though, because no one wants a random eyesore couch and no one wants to sit on one, so you’ll just make people more uncomfortable. Clean The room has to be clean. The worst is dodging clothing on the floor. It’s awkward for both the room owner and the room visitor. No one wants their clothing stepped on, and no one wants to walk on eggshells so they don’t seem disrespectful for stepping on your things. Plus, it helps with room! If the room is clean, it makes it seem bigger! Conversation Starters Art is a great conversation starter! Have cool things on the wall and point them out to people...

Lighten up the Holidays

Christmas!! Arguably, everyone’s favorite time of year. This is prime time to spend time with your roommates and decorate! Holiday decorating is supposed to be fun and is about bonding and making the space feel festive for the heart warming season. Try to remember this when you are deciding what to put up. Remember, compromise is important when living with roommates! Not everyone’s taste is the same. Lights: Always a GREAT way to go. Very safe. Who doesn’t love string lights for the holidays? Plus, if you look at a lot of college spaces, they have string lights up, so you won’t have to take them down after the holidays come and go, making your space always feel cozy and festive, for anything! Hanging them can be a lot of work but if you have patience and you want a great way to bond with the people you share that space with, take a minute and hang up the infamous string lights! If Only I’d Known…

My Sophomore year here at college, I moved into my first apartment with my best friends. We were all so excited and very eager to decorate and figure everything out. We all had different things we wanted to bring to the table, and by table I mean our small 3 bedroom, 2 bathroom apartment that somehow had to comfortably fit 5 girls. Thankfully for all of us, most of us 5 girls had the same decorating habits and tastes. BUT the one thing I firmly said could not enter our apartment was a tapestry. For anyone that doesn’t know what a tapestry is, it’s a big cloth that hangs from a wall that’s usually decorative and has different patterns and colors. I did not like that look at all at the time. For some reason I associated it with a lazily decorated space. I felt that it was an easy way out of taking the time to decide what looks best and what can be on the walls. My roommates kindly agreed that no tapestries would be hung in our common areas, and that was very nice of them, since looking back, I think we really missed out! It’s safe to say that my opinions on tapestries have changed… I now look at every tapestry I come across! We even have one in our living room in our house. I now think they’re a great addition to any room. they are a great way to add color, and fill that wall you don’t know what to do with! If you don’t have one (most college kids do) I would...

Roommates

If you’re like me, you love living with roommates. You’re never not around your friends and they know you well enough to know what you need to make sure you’re happy, and vice versa. That’s the beautiful thing about living with your friends! But, everyone has their own individual styles and decorating ideas. Everyone comes from different homes that were decorated and organized differently. This can mean that you don’t always see eye to eye in terms of how you should decorate, and holidays definitely can highlight any kind of different pages you might be on. Just try to remember that this is normal, and it is not a big deal. Remember to compromise, but get your point and wants across in a respectful manner. It is important to be heard but it is also very important to...
