Room Themes

Are you looking for a theme for your room? Are you unsure if that’s “cool”? I think a lot of people struggle with that… so don’t feel too bad. I’ll give you my opinion on it… but I’m not an expert. Everyone has different taste and everyone likes different things. I personally am not into room themes. By room themes, I mean such as a 90’s theme, or a western theme. Of course, it’s great to make sure that things match. But, I don’t think that it’s needed to have a theme overall, but like I said, everyone likes different things! And, if you struggle with trying to find different things to hang on walls or put together, then it is a good alternative to trying to find things that simply look nice together. Happy...

Candles

Scent in general is important to set the mood in your room. I don’t know why, but personally, I work so much better in my room with a candle lit. I have a lot of different candles and I light them at different times, depending on the things that need to get done. It can act as a motivator to get things done in your room, or to stay in your room. That sounds funny, but sometimes you have to get things done and the hardest thing to do is stay in your room, because then you have to get things done and do things you maybe aren’t looking forward to, such as homework or studying. Candles also can provide awesome lighting with the flame! So, go buy yourself a candle! It could be anything! My favorites include… -Soy candles -The 2econd Life by Chesapeake Bay Candles from Target -Bath and Body works candles -Anthropology candles But, you truly can get them from anywhere. My mom’s favorite candle place is Yankee Candle, so clearly you have tons of choices!...

Stockings

Hi blog followers! As Christmas approaches, there are so many fun and cool designs to add to your list! One of the all time classics are stockings! Stockings are festive and a cool way to have a group thing on the walls. I personally prefer classic white and red stockings, but there’s always room for some creativity. You can buy your own or make them, either way they’re a great way to add things to the walls this holiday season. You can also always put things in them, such as Saint Nick gifts to show your appreciation for your roommates and friends this holiday...

Color Inspiration

Do you ever feel like you’re out of ideas? You’ve looked and searched and scoured the internet for more design ideas and you feel like you’ve seen it all, you’ve hit a wall. Well, I think it’s safe to say everyone has. My best advice for when this happens is to STEP AWAY from the screen and…. Go outside. It may sound crazy, but stay with me! The best inspiration you could find outdoors is the color schemes! Nature provides us with such vibrant and rich colors, and puts colors together that we would never think of. I live on a little lake and there are always great views, no matter the season. Sometimes I step outside when I feel like I’ve hit a wall, and ideas come to me. For instance, the photo below was taken after a rainy day a year ago, and it inspired my room color scheme and reminded me that I love burnt oranges and there’s always something to be said for natural colors. So step outside and see what happens! You don’t always need a screen in front of you, or someone else telling you what they’ve done to inspire you. Happy...

Lighten up the Holidays

Christmas!! Arguably, everyone’s favorite time of year. This is prime time to spend time with your roommates and decorate! Holiday decorating is supposed to be fun and is about bonding and making the space feel festive for the heart warming season. Try to remember this when you are deciding what to put up. Remember, compromise is important when living with roommates! Not everyone’s taste is the same. Lights: Always a GREAT way to go. Very safe. Who doesn’t love string lights for the holidays? Plus, if you look at a lot of college spaces, they have string lights up, so you won’t have to take them down after the holidays come and go, making your space always feel cozy and festive, for anything! Hanging them can be a lot of work but if you have patience and you want a great way to bond with the people you share that space with, take a minute and hang up the infamous string lights! In fact, as I’m writing this, I’m looking at my awesome string lights strung about our kitchen, and I love...
