Color Inspiration

Do you ever feel like you’re out of ideas? You’ve looked and searched and scoured the internet for more design ideas and you feel like you’ve seen it all, you’ve hit a wall. Well, I think it’s safe to say everyone has. My best advice for when this happens is to STEP AWAY from the screen and…. Go outside. It may sound crazy, but stay with me! The best inspiration you could find outdoors is the color schemes! Nature provides us with such vibrant and rich colors, and puts colors together that we would never think of. I live on a little lake and there are always great views, no matter the season. Sometimes I step outside when I feel like I’ve hit a wall, and ideas come to me. For instance, the photo below was taken after a rainy day a year ago, and it inspired my room color scheme and reminded me that I love burnt oranges and there’s always something to be said for natural colors. So step outside and see what happens! You don’t always need a screen in front of you, or someone else telling you what they’ve done to inspire you. Happy...

Lighten up the Holidays

Christmas!! Arguably, everyone’s favorite time of year. This is prime time to spend time with your roommates and decorate! Holiday decorating is supposed to be fun and is about bonding and making the space feel festive for the heart warming season. Try to remember this when you are deciding what to put up. Remember, compromise is important when living with roommates! Not everyone’s taste is the same. Lights: Always a GREAT way to go. Very safe. Who doesn’t love string lights for the holidays? Plus, if you look at a lot of college spaces, they have string lights up, so you won’t have to take them down after the holidays come and go, making your space always feel cozy and festive, for anything! Hanging them can be a lot of work but if you have patience and you want a great way to bond with the people you share that space with, take a minute and hang up the infamous string lights! In fact, as I’m writing this, I’m looking at my awesome string lights strung about our kitchen, and I love...

Wall Decor

So… I’ve already made my view on tapestries pretty clear. I love them. But, they aren’t the only wall decor that someone can have! I personally do not have any tapestries in my room, because with two larger windows in taking up a lot of space, I just don’t have enough wall for it. But, that doesn’t stop me from having cool stuff on my walls! As you can see from the picture, I have hung a Nepal prayer flag that a friend got from me when she took a trip to Nepal. It has a more special meaning to me because it was blessed by a monk… but not all decor has to have a special meaning! You can also see that I have little mirrors about my desk, too! I love those mirrors because they add a lot of depth but they’re also simple and not detracting, which is nice for my little work corner with my desk. There are so many ways to make your decor your own, and make sure to throw in at least one piece that means something to you, so you can look at it and reflect, especially if it’s in a space you...
