diversity in music28 Oct 2009 11:38 am

International diversity can be seen in many different areas of society, one way being music. Music has been around the same time the first civilizations have been around in the world, and is still around and evolving from when it first started. An example of this would be soca music. Soca music first evolved in Trinidad. It is a mixture of calypso and Indian rhythms that come together to create an upbeat tempo. In 1973 when Lord Shorty introduced soca to the world with his hit “Indrani”, it prompted dozens of musicians to adopt the new music style.

At first soca music spread through neighboring Caribbean countries like Antigua, Barbados, St. Vincent and Grenada. But most recently the music has become more influential with other cities and countries like England and Canada and New York City. Part of the reason that soca music has grown and ventured out of the Caribbean as well is because of the younger generation that is taking over the music business. Successful and well-known artists include Machel Montano, Destra and Kevin Lyttle. So even though soca music started off in just one Caribbean island, artists have made the music popular enough that it has made it successfully to different cultures and countries.http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nvfs1BC9qyE

Favorite Brand and blogs13 Oct 2009 05:10 pm

For as long as I can remember, my dad always bought me the same brand of shoes and bags for school. I also remember my friends complimenting me on my shoes and asking where I got it from. As a result of this I grew quite fond of Addidas, and have been using it ever since. It is not only my favorite brand because it makes me look good but because it makes me happy when I wear it.

My second favorite brand would have to be Honey Bunches of Oats Cereal. For me it is sometimes a difficult task to get up in the morning, but having a great cereal can make the task all the more easier. However besides the taste, it is one my favorite brands because it has been around ever since I was born, and that to me shows consistence. Because of this, the cereal has also become a household name and has been continuously growing over the years. These two brands are my top favorites because, not only have I grown up wearing them or eating them, but also because it brings back happy memories from my childhood, and to me that makes using the products more worthwhile.addidas commercial

Our restaurant is called the lakeside lounge. I chose a restaurant because it is fun and keeps you on the move and entertained. Some of the things our business offers are: a unique selection of food, different themes each dayand relaxed and professional atmosphere.

My college transition16 Sep 2009 02:08 pm

My two weeks at Whitewater so far has been interesting and fun. It has also been relatively easy transitioning from high school to college. From the club u dub dub experience to the friends I have made so far has been enjoyable. Although the college transition has been relatively easy so far, the one thing that has been difficult for me is time management. High school assignments were much easier to do and there wasn’t much to do, quantity wise that there is now in college. One thing that does take a while to get used to is the food service. Although the food is a definite upgrade to high school food, you get sick of it in as little as two weeks and there isn’t much variety of things to choose from. Sure there are other places to go to like the University Center, but it’s all basically the same.

However besides the food, my classes are actually not as bad as I thought it would be. I have nice teachers who are most willing to help out in anyway they can before it gets too late. I also have two foreign teachers which makes things a little more fun. I remember my Math teacher from high school warning our class that we might have a teacher from a different country, but I never took it seriously. I personally think that it makes the class more interesting, granted that you can actually understand them.  Overall Whitewater has been a fun and welcoming campus. I’m enjoying it and I hope that things will keep getting better and better.
