International diversity can be seen in many different areas of society, one way being music. Music has been around the same time the first civilizations have been around in the world, and is still around and evolving from when it first started. An example of this would be soca music. Soca music first evolved in Trinidad. It is a mixture of calypso and Indian rhythms that come together to create an upbeat tempo. In 1973 when Lord Shorty introduced soca to the world with his hit “Indrani”, it prompted dozens of musicians to adopt the new music style.
At first soca music spread through neighboring Caribbean countries like Antigua, Barbados, St. Vincent and Grenada. But most recently the music has become more influential with other cities and countries like England and Canada and New York City. Part of the reason that soca music has grown and ventured out of the Caribbean as well is because of the younger generation that is taking over the music business. Successful and well-known artists include Machel Montano, Destra and Kevin Lyttle. So even though soca music started off in just one Caribbean island, artists have made the music popular enough that it has made it successfully to different cultures and countries.http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nvfs1BC9qyE
